Sorry to hear that but he'll move onto happier place in life. That is absolutely excellent you feel that way being a father, I wish all men took it as serious as you.

 

I wouldn't be mad because I am not in control of a girlfriend's life(I have no control over her life.anyway), if any. The general rule is never date a friend's ex. But that rule is broken time and time again. It's natural. I had this experience once in college and I did all I could to stay away and not interfere. I was attracted to my friend's girlfriend. They broke up and he moved out of town. I took my chances and asked her out 3 times. 3 times she said no. I would understand if it were the other way around.
