Flaming -- you're not seeing me say any of this was "justified" are you? You guys are picking up the wrong message in what I'm saying. ... Of course what happened was wrong. But I think it could've been avoided... which is why people should take certain things into consideration before they travel. Maybe someone should've sat this kid down and talked to him about bar fights... getting into legal trouble overseas... drunken white men and IR... etc. Some people get in serious shit overseas because they don't understand the drug laws are different over there. But if someone had laid it all out to them, the problem could've been avoided. This is similar in that respect. Just sayin', the problem could've been avoided if he had taken certain things into consideration. ...So those of us traveling in the future should also take certain things into consideration...
I think the Brother got jumped. The only mistake he made was being there in the first place. GREECE...... by myself......in a bar NO THANKS...
An angry person that wants to resort to violence isn't going to stop. If Bakari would've went to the bouncer he would've got the violent angry person even angrier because he got him in trouble. If he would've done nothing and shook it off, an angry violent person is looking for you to pay. Im pretty sure that little hit he gave Bakari wasn't enough in his violent mind, because it really didn't do anything. When a angry person wants to hit you they want to make sure damage is done. Violent people are in prison for a reason.
Let me ask you this. What would you have done if you took that trip with him? Would you have helped him when he was getting jumped or would you have just saved your own ass?
That's the lesson WE can learn, that he never got the chance to. Being friendly with people that are friendly to us is something we should NEVER have to stop doing.
I would've tried to get our asses out of there as soon as words were exchanged... I'm not sure of the lead up, but as soon as the atmosphere turned ugly... surrounded by foreigners overseas ... I would've put my foot down and demanded we all bounce... If he was getting jumped already, I probably would've tried to be the peacemaker... and if I had to fight, I would've fought. Also depends -- how close a friend am I with Bakari? Is he a friend -- or a friend of a friend? Did he start the fight? etc. But mainly I wouldn't be aggressive and would try to defuse the situation.
If grandma had balls she'd be grandpa. We're going a lil deep down the road of hypotheticals aren't we? Obviously I'm not saying that there's never a place for defending yourself with violence. I'm just saying use your head.
You can be in a bar by yourself. From what l read the waitress was the gf of the bouncer. I was always with a Black man in bars in Greece and none were attacked. From Africans, to Dutch Black and American Black men. He sadly came across racist knucklheads who murdered him in cold blood. I hope they all rot in Greek jail.
Again..l totally get you, and your sage points (even if others won't acknowledge them.) Unfortunately, Bakari paid the ultimate price for engaging a dirty punk with dirty cowardly friends. I won't M.M.QB his choice to instinctively defend himself and l think at his age - 22 - it's probably not fair to expect him to fully understand the dangers you present (especially on the carefree Greek Islands). I'm sure had he been your son you'd have drilled it in him and maybe his father did as well, but at the end of the day he felt the need to fight back for whatever reason/s. It should never have cost him his life and never become an 8 on 1.
So it was not wise of him to take a selfie with the waitress. Though he may not have been aware of the waitresses relationship to the bouncer. Nobody should rot in jail. Just lose their freedom as set out in law.
Well l don't think he knew, except that she was a pretty waitress who was either serving him, or caught his eye, whatever. Lots of people take selfies with the Help if they establish a fun bond while on vacation. From cabbies to cops to barmen. It's normal. Anyway, it was not 'unwise' - it's freaking Greece..party time.. Geeze. I also can't co-sign the "nobody should rot in jail" stance. Really? With the amount of depraved killers out there? Rot, rot, rot.
They should rot in jail. They took a life in a cowardly fashion. If that were an Arab beaten to death you'd want them to rot in jail
All people should be treated equally by justice - European, American, Pakistani, Iraqui, Chinese, Nigerian etc Seems your tolerance only applies to certain people
