I grew up watching her with my mom...loved her and the show. Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor on the daytime soap opera "The Young and the Restless," has died, TVLine reports. She was 84. Cooper's son, actor Corbin Bernsen, confirmed the sad news on Twitter today. Cooper was hospitalized last month with an undisclosed ailment and was said to be in critical condition. Bernsen also took to his Facebook page to announce the news of his mother's death, sharing, "My mother passed away this morning just a short time ago, peaceful with my sister by her side, in her sleep. I was going to visit this afternoon, thought I had time. Reminder to self - time is a precious thing. I too am at peace however. I said my goodbyes several times over during the last few weeks. I'll go one last time now for a gentle kiss a final farewell for this lifetime." "She has been a blaze her entire life, that beacon, that boxer I spoke of earlier. She went the full twelve rounds and by unanimous decision... won!" he continued. "And while her light finally gave into the wind that gives flight to all our journeys, there will always be a glimmer left behind by what she stood for." Cooper began her acting career in the 1950s, starring in the 1953 western film "The Redhead from Wyoming." She was also a fixture in the television world, appearing on shows like "Crossroads," "Tales of Wells Fargo" "The Adventures of Kit Carson" and "Cheyenne." She nabbed 10 Daytime Emmy nominations over the course of her long-spanning career, winning once for "The Young and the Restless" in 2008 after earning a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was also honored with two Primetime Emmy nods for "Ben Casey" and "L.A. Law." Cooper is survived by her three children, Corbin, Colin and Caren, with her ex-husband, television producer Harry Bernsen, Jr. ************ RIP, you were the ultimate daytime-TV Queen-Diva-Biyotch. :smt049
Such sad news. I grew up watching Y & R with my mama, and she was one of my favorite characters on the show. RIP JC/KC.
I thought she was getting better. I hope they reply the funeral when her character "died". Some of the characters of Y&R in the past were there. Ms.Cooper would be sorely missed.
I can't lie, I watched Y&R with my babysitter as a kid, and then again when I was home from school with an injured hand in 8th grade. Other than cartoons, what did I watch? Young and the Restless. R.I.P.
I remember watching Y&R when I was little(I was sick with the mumps). I watched it with my mom. And I remembered Dame Katherine Chancellor. I remember the how her character evolved. She had been through a lot of shit. From alcoholism, plastic surgery, kidnapping, discovering that her longtime nemesis and sometimes ally(Jill) was her birth daughter and so much more. Jeanne Cooper played this character for over four decades and I loved watching her play Dame Katherine. Thank you, Jeanne. May You Rest In Blessed Final Peace.
