I have also traveled, all the way to Norway. While it didn't quite work out and left some business in Germany as well, that won't prevent me from doing it again, in fact I don't even bother to go out locally.

Now I don't have to hear "Buy Me A Drink"

Just out of curiosity, where in Norway did you go and what did you think of the country all in all?

 

lippy is not old fashioned...to be honest, if a man was coming to my city to meet me...i would have him stay in a hotel...i wouldn't invite him to my home...if i was going to visit him, i would rather stay in a hotel than in his house...i like neutral ground...i am all for meeting in a different city...different state...different country...i love to travel and do so with ease... driving across town is just as easy as driving to the airport...everywhere i go my gps goes with me...rental cars are for getting around and hotels provide many of the comforts of home away from home

What's not to like? Midnight Sun during the summer, friendly people (even spectacularly attractive women), clean streets, English widely spoken... I have I mentioned clean country, hot women and friendly people yet - :smt023

I mean people don't even spit their gum onto the ground, they put it in a wrapper and put in the trash. No cans on the ground, not even a straw or cig buds.

Despite a 12 pack of Dr Pepper costing about $20US and Polar Twilight/Darkness, nothing would prevent me from living there.

Oslo was just as nice, just as clean, thought I highly recommend you find a local to show you around, use the internet.

 

Never been to Bergen but I go to Stavanger every year. My family lives there. I plan to move there myself within the next 3-5 years. Everything about that country amazes me. The exact same things you mentioned, the cleanliness, how disciplined the people are, and of course how much certain things cost are some of the things I tell people every time I talk about Norway. You can have a gourmet meal here for the amount you would pay there for a Happy Meal, though it tastes much better there than the McDonald's here. But then again, their minimum wage is in the range of about $20-22.

East Oslo is not so much clean though. Could it be coincidence that there are many immigrants there? I don't know.

 

What about seeing your baby girl?

 

That's the only thing holding me back. Her mom and I agree that it would be a good place to raise her there. At the same time I don't want to separate her from her mom and her mom wouldn't allow either. Mom and daughter love it there too. I would love for all three of us to move there though the mom and I aren't together anymore. That would be the ideal situation but I can't see that happening.

 

That would be great. Too bad you guys aren't together anymore.

I hate when folks break up or when they don't work out, but yeah, things do happen for whatever reason.

 

The good thing is that we get along well. We both have our child's interest at heart in any matter we involve. She's a great mom to my girl and looks out for me as her child's father. She just bought a condo close to where I live so we can both see our child anytime we want and distance wouldn't be a factor. We still do certain things that involve our child together as a family.

Anyway, we totally hijacked this thread and I'm breaking my "keep private matters private" rule here. We better leave it there before we anger some people.

 

I've spent a fair amount of time in Stavanger. It was great having drinks on the sidewalk outside of a bar at 2 in the morning in the bright sunshine as beautiful people walked the streets. Cost of living is high though, I paid 9 euros for a pint.

Although it is a rich oil town, it seems like the standard of living is almost a wash because of regulations. For example, I know a lot of folks found it tough to drive a car because of high taxes and zero tolerance for drunk driving. And I don't think Norweigians will do without lots of alchohol, I can remember the police collecting drunk bodies into their wagons after bars closed down.

I loved a club there called Halu Toll. It was on the waterfront. You would be lucky to live there, I think.

 

I would be very cautious because you are a woman. I hate to sound chauvinistic but hey there are crazies out there. Im a man and I would have some trepidations.
