Would you pay to ensure the sex of your child?

Because I'm not even sure I want a kid but I'm sure I only want one if I do go that route. If she feels the same it could be worth it.

Either way being a parent will be a challenge and there will be difficulties one way or another. If me and my SO only want one child which is more difficult?

Having two or three kids instead of one or having only one and being able to be sure of the gender? Either situation would be challenging and it would be up to her in the end, but there is no easy way to have the gender of the kid you want other than luck and I prefer not to bank on luck.

Personally if I found out the procedure would be too risky for her health I probably wouldn't be for it, but I can't imagine too many people going that route if the risks don't make any sense at all.

Ive done it. My youngest son was from IVF, he was a twin and the other didn't make it. It's a really rough process. Thankfully it worked the first time. It was something I would NEVER suggest doing.

    Nope.

The whole idea comes across as though folks are talking about choosing a new car or something, which is downright creepy to me. It's like some weird Build-A-Kid workshop, or the non-comedy version of the movie Twins.

Good points, Tam! I know many are even against knowing the gender prior to birth. That part doesn't bother me, especially since they can also learn if the baby will be born with any illnesses and such.

I wanted to know what the baby was going to be when I was pregnant (they were wrong though lol), but I was going to appreciate whatever God blessed me with. I do understand wanting to know about possible problems though.

Lol! Not laughing at you, but with you... That's funny. I'm sure I'd be hoping for the baby to be healthy and that Mom and baby are fine through the birth process and after.

Lol. I was told I was having a girl, so that's what I prepared for. When they told me "It's a boy!", the first thing that went through my mind was that I didn't buy any boys clothes. lol

Yes, I would pay to ensure that.

I can imagine. And unfortunately this happens a lot with IVF, one twin not making it. I know quite a few couples that went through various degrees of fertility treatments to get pregnant and none of them says they’d have done that if it was possible for them to conceive naturally. You were lucky it worked for you in the first cycle, that’s also not guaranteed.
