I know that there is another topic in this thread about the World Cup. I'm not trying to upstage that thread; it's been there for awhile and has many responses. I haven't participated in that thread because I'm not as knowledgeable about soccer. Still, I've been paying some attention to the World Cup. It's gotten my interest because I like sports that pit nation against nation (ala the Olympics) and I know that it's the world's most popular sporting event and soccer is the world's most popular game. The combatants for the World Cup Championship are: Italy or france Also, here are some photos of World Cup fans: Peace. ________ "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly

Mosiah ou sont les fans Francais??? (Mosiah where are the French fans???) Go Zizou!! Sorry Tifosi, but this is Zidane`s world cup!1

Italy won because Zidane did a head butt, got red carded, and he was not there for the penalty kick which might bring France to victory. I will not be surprised if he leaves France for good.
I wonder what the Italian player said to Zidane to make him loose it like that... Soulthinker I agree with you, Italy would not have won if it wasn't for Zidane missing in the penalty kicks. To bad for him to go out like that, he should have kept his cool but I understand how hard that must be... well it's over... on to South Africa
Yes, Chigirl another two years til the Euro Cup maybe there would be redemption and the next 2010 South Africa. Depending if Brazil returns-again.
Zidane did not take part in the penalty kicks...he headbutted Materazzi remember. So what you and Soulthinker are saying is if Zidane did not get the red card, it wouldve made Italy's 5 near 100% perfect penalties not go in somehow ? It made no difference for the shootout, the game in the remaining extra time yes but how the shootout when Italy scored 5/5 ?
Hi Sup, yeah I think that if Zidane would have been able to participate in the penalty kicks France would not have missed the one goal as they did... On the other hand then what, it would have just continued until one team scores.. I think it's pretty sad for both teams (in any soccer game) to fight for 120 minutes and then having it come down to PK's, that doesn't represent the spririt of the team work and hard work they put in during the entire game. Having said that, I must admit that I would not know of an alternative suggestion to solve this problem. I wonder if changing the rules to yield higher scores during games would be a solution or would at the end of the day just "water down" the hard game it is today. What do you all think?
Yes there had to be a rule change if two teams are as good like France and Italy. Even without Zidane's headbutt there had to be a change.
