I think y'all gave up a lil too much for him... http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/02/bears-give-up-big-package-for-cutler/
Thanks! We'll gladly take him! He's instantly the best quarterback we've ever had in Chicago!
We gave up 2 first round picks, a third, and Kyle Orton. That's a sweet deal for us. The first round picks are useless, because Jerry Angelo sucks at drafting in the first 2 rounds (Benson, Haynes, Grossman, etc...). He always finds his players in the later rounds. Kyle Orton is a bum, and i'm glad he's gone. Sweet, sweet deal for the Bears!
you won't think he so great when he starts whining! :smt022 the chicago media is going to have a field day with this guy...we weren't making it into the playoffs with him anyway...
you're showing your youth!!! Jim Mcmahon? plus like lipstick says, he'll be belly-achin in a few weeks
Hey Lippy. Being a Bear fan for all my life, one thing i know about the city of Chicago is the fact that we won't care how much the guy whines, as long as he produces on the field. He's instantly the best quarterback in Bears history (since Sid Luckman back in the 50's or 60's or whatever). I read that Jay has a record of 13-1 when the defense holds the other team under 21 points. That's a great stat because the Bears are known for their defense. All we have to do now is sign a FA wide receiver (Tory Holt) and we're on our way to the big game!
I WAS just reacting on what you said above.... "best quarterback EVER" Mcmahan has a ring but still, awesome fo your team
Oh yeah, i know what you mean. Jim does have a ring, and i hope Jay can become the kind of leader that Jim was. But as far as pure passing ability, playing the quarterback position, we've never had a passer of Jay's calibur in Chicago history. He threw for almost 5 thousand yards last season. That's incredible. Denver is nuts for trying to trade him for Cassell in the first place.
True, however it is a fact that the draft is the lifeblood of building a solid team (that is if you use the "best player available" strategy). As deep as this year's draft is gonna be talent-wise, the Bears may have screwed themselves for the forseeable future. Not to mention that the Bears have a reputation for never having any decent receivers around. Muhsin Muhammad said and I quote: "Chicago is a place where receivers go to die". So who in the hell is Cutler gonna throw to?:smt042
Looks like more good news for Bears fans, Orlando Pace will be there to protect Cutler's Blindside and to help mentor that Chris Williams. I know that some people are saying that they gave up alot but the draft is a crap shoot anyway. You can find stars in any round if you have the a good scouting department. And they still do have 7 picks this year. Plus Angelo isnt the best picker in the first round anyway. He tends to shine with his 2nd-7th round picks (Forte, Hester, Mark Anderson, Lance Briggs, Danieal Manning, etc..) For those of you asking who is he going to throw to well, first the Bears are a run first team and you have a future star in Matt Forte who just got better with this trade because teams wont be so quick to put 8 in the box. You do have a very good young TE in Greg Olsen who really started to come on last year. Devin Hester is a better deep threat because now he has a QB that can throw the deep ball and he wont have to slow down and wait for the pass.
Here's a history of our first round draft picks dating back to early 90's: Chris Williams- Hasn't really seen the field yet Greg Olsen- Good player Cedric Benson- First round BUST Tommie Harris- Good player Michael Haynes-BUST Rex Grossman- Love Rex, but BUST Marc Columbo- Good for Cowboys, but BUST for us David Terrell- HUGE BUST Brian Urlacher- Hall of famer Cade McNown-BUST Curtis Enis-BUST Walt Harris-BUST Rashaan Salaam-ENORMOUS BUST John Theirry-Don't know much about him Curtis Conway-Solid player, but not great So you see, the Bears have a VERY poor history of drafting in the first round. We usually find our players in the later rounds. It's just how the team has been built over the years. Giving up 2 first rounders counts for nothing when it comes to the Bears and their extremely poor history of drafting in that round. I'm pretty sure the Bears have either Tory Holt, or Marvin Harrison on their radar now that they have Cutler. Holt is my preference. Holt and Hester, plus a big strong kid in the second round of this years draft, should give us enough weapons. Oh, and Earl Bennett, the receiver we drafted last year from Vanderbilt, was Jay's favorite target when they played together in college, and they practice with each other all the time.
Exactly glt. Exactly! The first round of the draft is a total crapshoot. The Bears were going to have to draft a quarterback eventually, because Kyle Orton was not the answer. It's better that they get a proven, pro-bowl level quarterback now, than spend a first round pick trying to develop a guy who may never come around (Rex Grossman).
This is because they keep drafting on a "need" basis as opposed to a "best player available" philosophy. I'm not saying get rid of the GM, I'm saying that the GM as well as the entire front-office needs to change their franchise building strategy a little bit. I know they wont shit-can Jerry Angelo because he's got juice in the organization, but if this whole deal ends very badly I would not at all be surprised if Lovie Smith were somehow made into the fall-guy. I'm not at all saying that this wont work, but Jay Cutler will be a very different QB without Brandon Marshall and zone-blocking linemen, I guarantee it.
cutler wasn't the only clown in the news today...we have a package deal for chicago...we are going to send you the infamous CU professor ward churchhill...:smt091
