That seems like a harsh amount of time given.

Obviously they want to scare the shite out of anyone else who might be tempted to splurge information.

I'd say he was lucky he didn't have a little accident while he was on remand.

Manning illegally downloaded classified documents and handed them over to Wikileaks. Snowden did the exact same thing as a contract employer at the NSA.

These guys weren't 'whistleblowers' in the classic sense, telling the public what they personally saw or witnessed on the job.

They stole classified documents from the government.

In Manning's case, he was used like a bitch by Wikileaks because they had to know what the consequences were going to be for this low level enlisted soldier for committing such an act.

If a general had done the same thing, his punishment would have been almost as severe.

Snowden leaked the schematic details in powerpoint slides of our government's metadata surveillance program at NSA.

If Snowden were such a concerned citizen and a patriot, he would have requested a special emergency closed meeting with members of the congressional intelligence committee to reveal his concerns.
Your first move can't be to go to a FOREIGN newspaper and release NSA surveillance program data.

I just don't think it's cool for a whistleblower to illegally download classified material and hand it over to foreign media or an organization like Wikileaks.

Now people think Snowden's some kind of victim, and yet the Russians revealed today they've been 'assisting' Snowden for several months now.

No American patriot runs to China and Russia for help after committing treason.

Snowden better be careful or he's going to end up in a single car accident or catching a stray bullet in the back of his head at a outdoor cafe.

If you truly have sincere concerns about this country's surveillance programs and their legality, you go to your Congressional representative FIRST, not the media. And you sure as hell don't illegally download documents available to you because you abused your security clearance.

30 years ago both these men would probably be looking at a death penalty sentence.

What's insane to me is that these surveillance programs were known about since 2006. Where people not paying attention when Dubya was catching hell for spying on Americans???lol:axe:
