Why gay black men may have an advantage over straight black men in the workplace

I found this interesting article over at the Root. Perhaps I should have posted it in the news thread but I thought the topic was worth placing it here instead.

    http://www.theroot.com/articles/cul...lack_and_gay_mean_having_a_higher_salary.html

It addressed some study which indicated that gay black men may not only make as much as straight white males in the workforce, but that gay black men may be preferred over straight black males in so far as hiring is concerned.

Now the samples/research used to come to this conclusion or theory may be faulty. Nonetheless when reading it I could see the explanation for why gay black men are preferred coming a mile away:

It’s great to know that gay black men have found a place of acceptance in the world, particularly in the working world—something that would have been hard to imagine a generation ago. But the potential underlying reason they may have found that place is troubling nonetheless.

Pedulla says, “There is some evidence that gay black men are perceived as less threatening than straight black men and that this difference accounts for a piece of the salary-recommendation difference between these two groups.” I didn’t need to read that sentence to see that coming.

Fear of the sexual power and prowess of black men has been at the root of the most horrifying acts of racial violence against black Americans, from the lynching epidemic of the early 20th century to the torture of young Emmett Till for supposedly flirting with a white woman in 1955. In previous interviews with The Root, Mark Potok, one of the country’s leading experts on hate groups, described an unhealthy obsession among many hate-group leaders with interracial sex, specifically the idea of black men “defiling” white women.

Now, I’m not comparing the average employer to a hate-group leader. But I am saying that even though our president is the product of a union between a black man and a white woman, and interracial families are our country’s fastest-growing demographic, the reality is that a fear that has been an ingrained part of our culture for centuries hasn’t dissipated after a few decades of integration.

Yep. It all comes back to keep the straight black dudes away from the white chicks. This mentality has affected American society at least in ways people don't understand

Interesting angle on a fairly well-documented theory of American social dynamics.

The racial anxiety that revolves around the black man's penis and what he plans to do with it are intertwined with the psychology of white America. If more white men practiced self-honesty, they'd admit their perception of the black man's penis as bigger and therefore more desirable to white women is troubling.

A larger penis, however, doesn't matter if the target is another man's ass.

I think it is not about the race of a gay person per se. Gay employees work in their profession a little harder than their heterosexual co-workers and are a little more creative in the presentation of ideas.

I wouldn't agree with that at all. That would tend to imply that all gays are more artistic generally. But there are plenty of gay bankers, office workers, etc, in positions that require zero creativity, and plenty of hard-working, creative straight people.

Slavery and objectification of black people creates the fertile ground for mass white racism and perceptions of inhuman qualities and characteristics. Not necessarily agreeing with all of his ideas, but "Soul on Ice" by Eldridge Cleaver posits this creation of the myth of the Supermasculine Black Menial in the white mind as a function of black men being reduced to slave labor and denied their humanity in slavery.

Thanks for posting the article. It's very interesting.

The Black gay guy would get the job than the straight one. They are not threatening to the White male supremacy in the work force.

Lol You took the words right out my fucking mouth! This is the only reason why WM would allow gay BM to progress higher in the corporate world than straight BM. There's no other reason.
