To be kind, let's call it a theory. If you have faith, and you pray, you can ask for anything in the name of Jesus and receive it. That is his promise.

You're half right. This is a partially presumptuous thread but I do have a genuine interest in the 'Truth'. If I ask someone to prove to me that leprechauns exist I'd most likely ask it in a cruel and rhetorical manner, but I'd still like to be proven wrong.

I am an honest researcher, although not a scientist, obviously. What you call a lack of research is actually a reflection of a dearth of material. Not much money has been contributed to the research of prayer efficacy (Surprising? Not really). The main problem here is that I'm judging the efficacy of prayer by the high standards to which the Bible regards it. As I've said many times...the more specificity you add to something, the easier it is to disprove. John 3:22 And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him.

Something like this would be harder to test if he said "And sometimes we will receive some of the things we want because we obey him and do the things that please him". Basically, you're blaming me because the Bible has outlandish claims that your god can't live up to.

    See above post.

Nope, I'm not a medical expert but Dr. Oz is, and on his show he told Joel Osteen that studies have shown prayer to be ineffective. So, now that you know a person with a PhD said the same thing that I'm saying, do you agree anymore than you did before? Probably not.

Richard Dawkins asked "Do you need to read learned volumes of Leprechology before disbelieving leprechauns?". Just as a solidly based theory becomes stronger as it withstands the test of time, ridiculous claims become weaker after thousands of years.

Catholics are Christians, just a bit different.

I remember when I was in Israel with the Associates for Biblical Research on an archaeological dig. One of the doctors there asked me if I was Christian. I replied, no I'm Catholic. He said, well that's Christian. LOL. I had to agree with him.

It's just not the Christian that they were. Catholics are more quiet about their religion. We don't write songs and sing on buses and say prayers before and after archaeological digs. There is nothing wrong with either, it's just different.

As my other Catholic-raised friend said on our trip - we aren't in culture shock Israel, we're in culture shock Bible Belt!

LOL. I digress. Catholics and Christians are basically under the same heading as Christianity (Christians WERE Catholics until Martin Luther). :smt023
