Well as a fan of the comics and such, I have no problem with the ideal of heimdall being played by a black man. The point is simple, if you take a topic, and adjust according to your own way of creativity, than all bets are off. Simple as that. If we truly wanted Thor to be represented, than he wouldn't be blond,
and he would have no affiliation with Captain America or the Avengers. But since Marvel Thor and Mythology Thor are relatively different, than all bets are off. But the reason people accept blond thor but not a black male is because we
are use to Americans taking a main character from another culture and giving it it's own WASP twist, only recently have we been doing that and providing a minority character twist, albeit with supporting characters of course. Now to someone who equate to shaft (can't remember who.), it's not the same.

Heimdall is not even a side character, he's merely a supporting character. In order to make the exact same difference, you would have to have an almost all black cast (good luck of that happening.) and than change one of the supporting characters to caucasian, that's the equivalent to what just happened.

The actor Jennifer Alexander also said this on her twitter page. She's
    playing lady sif.

I'm actually surprised that people are rather shocked at this. Older forms of
literature and art aren't really too diverse when it comes to characters. (And arguably modern pieces isn't much better.) But comics by far has some of the lowest percentage of minority characters out of them all. So it was only natural for them to hide their lack of diversity when it's time to bring it
to the big screen. They did this with GI Joe, with ripclaw being played by marlon wayans. (To be honest, he was the best part of the movie IMO, him and the special effects.)

Ultimately, I believe that once you start changing things from the source material, than all bets are off.

Idris Elba can play any roll he wants, he's sexy as hell and I need him to be in more film and television so I can drool over his hottness.

Yes, this post is purely hormonal. :smt083

Ok...going to watch The Wire 1/2/3, Luther, Rocknrolla and Losers in one sitting just so I can overdose on his sexiness.

There's a lead Indian on the tv show Greek. Besides the reason why a lot of leads are hispanic black indians or east asians is because this country is mostly white and so is hollywood. Blacks have made their own movies(its harder for us than anyone then look it up) so why can't everyone else do the same?

And people didn't even stop to recall that there's an alternate Marvel Universe line of comics where Nick Fury was in fact a black guy. I get where FG is coming from, but also hear you as well. Plus in many mythologies regardless of origin there are characters referred to as '...the Black' and '...the White'. Hence the disputed theory that the Aztecs thought Cortes was the incarnation of the god Quetzacoatl. They had some lore about the deity being white (i.e. bright/sunlit/etc) and pale skin was the closest thing they had ever seen to that. I always assumed Heimdall was Nordic too, but he does guard the 'rainbow' bridge, LOL.

Not to mention if they were so big authenticity I don't see anyone bitching the main dude isn't Nordic. He's Australian.

Then in general, the director Kenneth Brennaugh has a habit of casting people for talent rather than looks. Sure, Idris may pull in people who may not have normally watched the movie (if that was their angle), but we're looking at the same director who once cast Denzel Washington and Keeanu Reeves as brothers in one of his adaptations of a Shakespeare play. I think it was Much To Do About Nothing or something. Good movie.

Funny how whenever Hollywood white-washes fictional Asian characters and movies, something they do all the time, guys like that are all for it. And they sure as hell don't see why people complain about it. But a black guy plays a mythical Norse God who no one believes in....

As a side note I thought KB was great in Hamlet.

Oh yeah, KB is awesome. Another one of his to checkout is Henry V he was pretty young in that movie, but it's a good one to see if you're into those kind of movies.
