Is this a trend??? Discuss http://community.allhiphop.com/disc...actresses-adopting-black-babies-your-thoughts
Maybe if the original parents would actually take care of their own, this wouldn't happen. Kudos to those that adopt btw.
Not sure I'd call it a 'trend', but perhaps adopting is popular with celebs because they don't want to mess their bodies up with pregnancy, or they just can't get pregnant because they're too skinny (yes...this happens)? It could also be that they want to share their wealth with someone who really needs it and there are plenty of children out their who need a good home. As for the colour of the babies...aren't white babies in much higher demand and non-white babies in larger numbers, or something like that??? No matter the reason, I think adopting is wonderful. My husband and I hope to adopt one day too.
good for them for adopting. the children obviously need a loving home to go to, and it's not just black babies that are being adopted, chinese are also very popular. who cares what the colour or race of the child is, as long as it is getting to be part of a loving home.
I get what all of you are saying about, "all that matters is that these children go to good homes". On a case by case bases I will agree with you. However, in the context of the history of Black/White relations in our society it is a little troubling. You see, part of the justification for White discrimination against Black people, was the racist attitude that Black people are a child race, that we need the White people to save us from ourselves. These attitudes still permeate under the surface today, disguised as liberal coddling and conservative condescension. So when I see Black children being "saved", it (maybe unfairly) stirs up some of the old resentment. It's the same feeling that some people had about that movie The Blind Side. We are all aware that the movie was based off of true events. But even true events, told in a certain manner can be used to perpetuate a semi-racist stereotype.
It's also interesting reading accounts of white children raised in minority families as opposed to minority children raised in white families.
Some people love this sort of thing and some won't. I personally don't have a problem with it as long as the children get to live in good homes and get a better quality education but you can't please everybody.
I too agree, the section of the black community who have unprotected sex and the black women who decide to go through with the pregnancy only to give the baby up for adoption is tragic. I have no problem with someone from another race raising and caring for them. As long as they don't grow up to be arrogant self-hating conservative black men. I personally would rather have these white actresses marrying and having children with black men maybe it will give them an idea on how to raise an African-American child.
I am not sold on this white celebrity hopping on a plane to go adopt an African baby thing. There are lots of impoverished black babies to adopt in America so why don't you go there and do that. I sometimes think its for publicity but who knows they may be genuine. Angelina Jolie did it, then Madonna did it now i am waiting to see who does it next. Now if Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian hops on a plane to Africa to adopt a baby it DEFINITELY will be for publicity.
LMAO nice dig at me. But you are wrong, while I'm a conservative black republican, I'm not arrogant or self hating.
Would you rather these babies live shitty lives in Africa or Haiti? Personally, I think its a great thing.
I have seen Kid Rasta post here and on another similar site for years, (If he is the same Kid Rasta) and he has never seemed particularly anti-White to me. He mostly posts threads about IR couples and IR in popular Entertainment.
