Ahhh history was my second interest, you have a broad base there with the Latin American too.

Good lord, not a professor or a lecturer, only have my undergrad degree. Obviously am hoping to head into practice with law, but dream of returning for masters and doctorate degrees later on...and perhaps will decide that the academic life is for me rather than a proper legal career.

University of Newcastle, Australia. I'm still there now..

It was in my home town and I couldn't afford to move away at the time so it made sense..would love to do some post-grad overseas though.

Very different campus to those traditional, imposing sandstone buildings in other places in Australia/UK etc...it's a fairly modern campus where all the large buildings are kind of camouflaged by bush, the opposite of how they were traditionally built..

Btw, in the states, what is the difference between "university" and "college", or are they the same thing? I thought maybe university was something different, what we would call TAFE here. What we call uni is what you guys call college...

a University is a large research center, it usually has graduate level education as well It is a four year undergraduate program and graduate and doctoral work

a college is smaller, same four year undergraduate without the graduate level education

Southern University at Baton Rouge. Has no bearing whatsoever on a brother's interest in white women. I've probably seen 5 different white women that were undergrad since I've been here(4 years). Now when you get to the law school, the number of nonblack women probably triples. Probably does more than that. Too bad I'm not a law student.

Uni of Newcastle has 22,000 students. It is not rural but not a university based in a major city like Sydney or Melbourne either. One main campus plus two smaller campuses- one of these being solely for Graduate Business studies and senior law students. There are also graduate schools overseas in Malaysia and Singapore.

oh ok, thanks for the clarification- universities here encompass what we call undergrad and post-grad studies. Universities are also research centres, and are usually ranked on the quality and output of their research.

Oh wow! Well it's a small world. Actually my friend was chatting to a couple of guys the other day- they are doing teaching and are from Canada! There must be a program.

Yep went back on the 20th- am so tired already. What did she say about our fair city? Doesn't really compare to much in Canada I don't think!

Don't be so sure...she is loving every minute of it! She has told me it's "awesome" about a million times! I also know of a guy I went to high school who is there as well for teacher's college...it would be funny, if that was one of the guys your friend was talking to!

I too love Australia, I was there in November for a month. Went to Sydney, did the outback/Alice Springs thing, Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. I can't wait to go back and see more!

    cheers :)
