Where and Wheb is the best place to visit in the USA?

We are planning a holiday to go to the States next year, probably for 2 weeks. But we are undecided as to where to go?

With alot of you being in America, I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction?

I have always wanted to visit San Fransico, LA, Santa Barbara etc but my Parents went in May and said it was quite cold, so when is the best time to go?

I really want to see New York too, but again, unsure of what time of year is best to go.

Any other States or Cities that you think would be worth a visit, please feel free to mention

 

LA is never really cold - heck it can be 80 in January, your parents must have meant Northern California.... SF is almost always cold in my opinion

A drive on 1 from LA to SF is quite spectacular, and then drive into the wine country (sonoma Napa).
Cold or not, SF is AWESOME, you just have to have a good fleece and a wind jacket handy. I LOVE SF.
You will never forget the drive up the coast from LA to SF!
Grand Canyon is another must imo.
Las Vegas for the sheer spectacle - you can do all of the above in 2 weeks easily.

Another very cool thing is to do Florida, drive down to the Keys and stop at the really small motels long the way. Key West has become very touristy, but its worth it still for most people.

Thank you Hun, I have been to Florida and loved it, but I am drawn to the west coast.. I have distant relatives in san fransico, maybe that's why

The deive sounds great, we were thinking of hiring a car and doing that x

 

Chicago would be best visited in late May through June. Anytime after that would probably be quite humid and warm - though this summer in Chicago wasn't bad at all.

You said you wanted to visit the West Coast, though....can't really comment on that. So, if Chicago is on your radar, you know when the best time of year to visit. :smt023

 

I spent 6 months road tripping the USA last year, so if you have any specifics about that type of thing, let me know.

If you want to go to the west coast, then go to the west coast. I travelled for 1 month in Dec 05. LA --> Vegas --> SF --> NYC. Probably could have rushed it in 3 weeks. 4 weeks was just comfortable.

I was in Boston in November last year and have never been so cold in all my life. NYC has never been too bad when I've been there and that's mostly Christmas time.
