When rating their countries, Canadians and Americans happy, Brits downbeat By Jennifer Saltman, Postmedia News December 28, 2011 Americans and the British regard Canada as a country with a respectful, peaceful society and high-quality health care, according to a poll conducted by Angus Reid Public Opinion. The poll results, released Wednesday, also show that Canadians are more satisfied with certain aspects of their lives than their counterparts in the U.S. and Britain. According to the poll, 42 per cent of Canadians think the best days for their country are ahead, while 36 per cent of Americans and 17 per cent of Brits feel the same way about their countries. A high percentage of Canadians polled think that out of the three countries theirs has the best job prospects (54 per cent), gives them access to high-quality health care (67 per cent), provides a respectful and peaceful society (86 per cent), provides the best standard of living for them and their families (75 per cent) and is the best place to raise a family (87 per cent). Americans also believe their country is the best in these areas, but they gave Canada high marks in health-care access and for providing a peaceful and respectful society. In comparison, Brits gave their country low scores for most of the five areas. Access to high-quality health care was the only area in which British respondents gave their country the highest rating (47 per cent). They thought Canada excelled in job prospects (30 per cent), providing a peaceful and respectful society (61 per cent), providing a better standard of living (47 per cent) and being the best place to raise a family (46 per cent). The public-opinion poll was conducted online between Sept. 28 and 30, involving adult panellists from all three countries (1,003 Canadians, 1,007 Americans and 2,115 Brits). The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 per cent for Canada and the U.S. and 2.2 per cent for Great Britain. The poll was conducted in partnership with Maclean's magazine. I'm not surprised by the findings. Canada pretty much survived the recession better than the US and have been hitting hard on bringing better economic prospects. Thus, I say to anyone living in Canada, you all have a lot of good fortunes ahead of you. I would love to check out Canada someday and possibly make it a second home for me. But, let's not discount the US, nor Britain despite economic woes plaguing both countries. Every nation have their highs and lows in any period in time. It's a matter of maintaining a strong foundation on believing that the country you're part of can overcome any troubles it stands in their way. There's an interesting book to check out called The Geography of Bliss. Happiness comes a long way. But in the end, it's all about personal comfort.
After reading that article, I actually kinda feel good about being a Canadian. Nevertheless, the countries listed are just as equally as good. (in my opinoin that is.)
