oh, and financing anything is beyond my ability. My ex husband and my growing amount of student loan debt fucks me out of any sort of credit, period. -_-

 

Like tinkerbell said why dont you try a push bike, my first job i had before i was old enough to drive, i biked 6 miles to it, i know 6 miles is not 8, but maybe you could see if a friend has a bike to lend you untill you can sort one for yourself, maybe when you visit pals who live with there parents (ask there parents) ask everyone someone will have one, use your charm.

I really hope you get that job, fingers extra extra crossed for you.

The cool thing about biking 80 miles a week is that you could practically eat or drink whatever you want. I doubt that any calories would stick to most people who managed such a feat.

 

Amen to that! I had a friend who did a "century" (100km) every weekend or other weekend plus daily riding when he was training for a 24 hr race and he almost ate pure butter just to keep up the calories required.

 

If anyone has the extreme misfortune to live in the middle of this continent, you know that it's beyond freezing outside. It's about -12 Fahrenheit (-25 Celcius) here in Akron. Sometimes I wonder why I live in this frozen hell lol

 

Houston is a fucked up city. Barely anyone rides a bike or walks here, because of the extreme heat we get during the summer (which is that 10 month season we have when it's not cold outside for 2 months, essentially) I'm assuming. We've got insane traffic issues because everyone drives everywhere, due to the spread out nature of the city. It sucks. Bikers and walkers are in the extreme minority here, so it's harder to find second hand bikes.

but I'll start asking around. I dont visit anyone who lives with their parents though, sadly. If I had me some of them swanky suburban friends I bet I could find a bike no problem *L*

 

It wouldn't be that much, since I go to school 3 days a week. It'd be 8.5 (I checked again, I was wrong) 2-4 days per week, and then 3.5 the three days I go to school, if I were lucky enough to have a bike! I'd ride that damn thing everywhere.

I used to ride year round here in Edmonton till I slipped on the ice and damn near got run over by a maniac in a vehicle. Now I am a fairer weather rider i.e. no ice on the road = I'm riding!

haha not really, just call and they'll reschedule you. I used to get those notices in the mail all the time, but they stopped coming because I never showed up.

 

Yeah, I just called them a second ago and got it rescheduled for June 8th. I was buggin' out for a second. :smt120

 

There was a lady who got a scooter from Moxi Scooters in Colleyville and they let her pay it off to them with no down. She was starting over after a divorce and was left with nothing. Another member of a scooter forum called and asked if they had any special financing and they worked the deal out with the owner. She got a Korean one if memory serves (which is better than a chineese, but not quite as good as a Japanese or Itallian).

Would you be embarassed if I tried to advocate on your behalf and find someone who can work with you?

 

For real? See, I didn't know stuff like that was possible except through like...family owned places that know you personally.

...if you could find me some options, I'd be eternally grateful, actually. I'm not really embarassed by my financial situation anymore, except when I have to get food stamps and stuff. That kinda gets to my redneck pride, but I've learned that you just gotta take help when you need it if you want to get by. Besides, having at least two wheels would be extremely helpful in finding a job.

 

I haven't said anything since I live too far away to help but you should know I would have tried if I was closer. I hope you find a scooter or something. And well, off course a good job. Or that you suddenly become very famous for your art so you can sell it dead expencive. That works as well.

 

Aw thanks darlin', the thought alone is wonderful. And actually, I may be able to sell some paintings at decent prices (3 figures! That'd be huge for me *L*) -and- benefit charity at the same time, so...keeping my fingers crossed. I'm out there on the grind, tryin' to hustle my way into some art money. Carrying around a copy of my last drawing is helping get some commission possibilities, at least!

Ah. One day I shall be rich and famous. I've already decided. Until then? Ramen for dinner. >.<

 

One day in the future, art critiques are gonna look at your work and say things like "yes yes, this is from her early work, you can see it in the way she handles the material, this was before she got famous, and I think this is really significant for her work, the way she expresses this discrepance" and so on.

 

I agree Scylla. Although I am not an artist by any stretch, I feel that the dominant society of today pays lip service to valuing art, yet does so little to support the artists.

oh yeah, trust me.. It's hard hard work to make do with your art only. To even get published is almost impossible (as a poet).

 

You know DH, some business' will pay good money to have logos and art done on their windows or signs. Maybe you could make ups some cards or flyers on your computer and take them around to local business'! Just a thought.
