Get real, the Census Bureau is very credible. I spent all of 30 seconds just to produce a link. I am quite sure that if I devoted even a half an hour to researching I could find many many more articles and studies showing progress in the Black community.

You seem to think that anyone who rebels against the constant barrage of negative portrayals of BM in the media is also by default turning a blind eye to the problems facing BM and the Black community, not so the two are NOT mutually exclusive.

Now to the point, I can say that I mentor at risk youth, volunteer with the first tee program which teaches life as well as golf skills, am the past president of our young professionals division of the local Urban League chapter where we have raised literally hundreds of thousands of dollars for minority education and housing projects. What have YOU done to address the social ills that you so post about with so much passion there in the UK?

This is what the op said

There is no mention that this directive is to the UK parents.

I can conceed the fact that British Men suck, and African American Men are awesome, if you like. But Madiba might not appreciate it. When I suggested, several pages back, that there might be a difference between Black Men in the UK and the USA, he responded that I was trying to make this into a UK/ USA thing. Now it seems you're trying to do that in his defense.

Moreover, he has repeatedly used Obama as "proof." Obama's not your Prime Minister. I know yall are having a bit of an issue with picking Prime Ministers these days, but I'm pretty sure it's not Obama.

I already posted an article from PBS quoting two leading Academics about the Coley study. It's not that hard to find. I'm not just going to go around posting and reposting things, and btw, interestingly enough most sociological studies are not rated based upon how easily you can google them.

As I pointed out in my original post, this issue gets confused when people start talking about "Absent" fathers, since "Absent" is often used synonymously with "not living with the mother". In other words: Black parents sometimes break up. As the Coley study points out, however, how much a man wants to be a father is not necessarily reflected in whether he is still living with the mother.

Dang. I gotta spread rep around before giving it to you again, but I wish I could give you rep for this post. Just listen real hard and you can hear the applause in the distance.

If anyone had bothered to follow that link to the article I quoted, you would have found another link:

    http://www.srcd.org/journals/cdev/1-2/Coley2.pdf

This is the summary of the Coley Study. It doesn't have all the juiciest bits in there, but it does describe the study some, and also includes the following tidbit, which is also interesting and counterintuitive:

Here's some more info about this highly disreputable, obviously made up study:

Want another example look no further than this article from yesterday:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/04/us/04interracial.html?scp=1&sq=black women marriage&st=cse

Notice the headline says in nice bold print

Black Women See Fewer Black Men at the Altar

but at the end of the article it says

Black men are not doing anything remarkably greater or lesser than anyone else, but guess who always gets thrusted into the headline?

They should be told to love learning and to never stop learning. Be a learning machine and you will conquer your world.

Chi, this is pathetic. You said maybe the UK sucks..to which I responded are you trying to make it a UK, USA thing. Meaning that you are trying to get the UK people to argue with the American people..Thats what that meant..
