OK the topics are getting lame as hell around here, so I will chip in by asking the forum how do you define freedom?

I'm looking for thoughtful answers here, so please don't litter the sandbox with . . .

Freedom is flying to Europe and getting some dank and pussy.

    I'll start things off.

Freedom is not caring whether most people view you as a friend or enemy.

    Mmm.

I see freedom as the ability to make the right decisions for yourself without other people's influence/control. There's a little more to it, but that sums up my feelings on it.

Freedom is being happy with who you are whether anyone else likes it or not.

Freedom is being free to do, have, and be everything you wish, want, and dream.

coming from someone who used to be a 'yes' girl, my freedom was the ability to learn how to say no without fear of the other person's reaction

Freedom is having what my mother used to call "Fuck you" money. It's being able to pay your own way in life, to have enough money to say "Fuck you, you don't pay my bills so your opinion about my choices doesn't matter."

Is a myth. You're only free to die and even that can be taken away by the state.

I never cared about money until most recently and even now only want to achieve a personal level of comfort through creative pursuits, namely writing.

    Critical.

    Good responses 11eleven11 and Brittannia.

Freedom for me is to actually have the right to pursue happiness as goofy as it sounds. I am allowed to do so, and there are venues to do so. That is freedom.

freedom to me is when you are no longer tied to anything or anyone...a time when i will only be responsible for myself...make my own decisions without letting anyone else weigh in...no one to answer to...at some point i won't be making decisions for my son anymore...he will make his own choices...we will still be connected but on a more even playing field...

Freedom is something you don't appreciate until you don't have it.

It's not only realizing that you have a choice, but actually making it.

It means nothing if you have no sense of perspective. There are many, many people in every part of the world that have no freedom, whether it be due to government, family, or bonds of their own making.

It is also sometimes a terrible, terrible thing.

Freedom, I will say is the "state of play" where people recognise and respect your right to your choices even though they may not agree with the choices. The idea that you are allowed to pursue your beliefs to their logical ends without their opinion negatively impacting you or you impacting society.

Freedom...as long as we live and breathe in the confines of government and law, is merely a concept, not a reality. In other words, it's an illusion.

Does that mean that you'd prefer to exist in a state of nature?
