I think this is an outside look of what some people thing although many outside of the usa paint with a broad brush of Americans.:smt012

How do you feel about the opinions? Are they right?

  2. I can't seem to be able to view it. But I, for one, LOVE America and Americans. I know a small few people who agree with me, and many more that don't. Those many more also don't know much about America (though they think they do) and most of them have not been there, so their opinion bears no relevance.

unfortunately, I think you're correct. I fear the rest of the world views the US as a bunch of loud, obnoxious boorish people who have a very pushy government. This doesn't mean I don't appreciate being an american, I consider myself truly fortunate. IMO, I happen to think we are viewed negatively. :smt120

I get an earful everytime I go back to Sweden....
One of the most Americanized countries in the Europe.

Im sort of inbetween.. half American, half Swedish by now... so I see both sides.. and its very interresting.

Positive? Not much. Again, I see both sides point of view.

I hate people in general, but Americans hold a special place for me as no other advanced nation absolves so much of their shortcomings through religious belief. It doesn't matter how much of a fuck up you are, because Jesus will forgive you in the end.

To that I offer a resounding, "Fuck you."

America is a political experiment and Americans are a social construct. Our greatest virtue as a nation is that we are young and the idea of being American is a far more malleable one than being Chinese, Indian, or Ethiopian.

If you want to be a good American, then overthrow tradition and innovate. Change motherfucker.

You are, for the most part, correct, Luv.

As an expatriate Chicagoan...I sometimes get confronted by people who, surprised at my not being the stereotypical 'loud, pushy, and boastful American', exclaim that 'We had ya pegged wrong'; 'You're the exception to the rule, now, aren't you?'; 'You're not like all the others'...and things like these.

For the most part, however, there *are* folks who are educated, cosmopolitan, and well-travelled enough to know that there's the good out there...as well as the wienerheads...and *they* are in *every* nationality and what-not..

Still & all, I'd NEVER trade my being a Yank for ANYTHING in the world!

I think we have a little bit of something in common there, m8..

Though I am making every endeavour to change *my* particular personal mindset....

Till then, I would appreciate if you all allow me to hold the Official Mantle of resident Bitter Misanthrope here at WWBM.:smt036

americans or septic tanks as they are also referred to over here are both admired and loathed. i think it's a mixture of things...the ego, "the most powerful country on earth" bit, the "everyone wants to be us".

If the governments of Oz and US are Conservative it would be a love fest but if it's the opposite it would be frosty relations.

I'm one who could care less what the rest of the world think of us. I say lets stop being the world's policeman and welfare host and start taking care of the homefront first. Reduce or eliminate foreign aid, stop trying to get peole to love us and let them take care of their own countries. We got too many people in this country who are willing to kiss ass and kneel to anyone who just think negative about us.

Exactly! We are so busy helping other countries, we are not seeing the devastation on our streets, homeless Americans who are suffering. Don't believe it?... Come here and see, on every street corner there are people begging for help, so many that our city is handing out vests for the people to wear while on their corners.....how sad that our beautiful country has come to this...
It is true, because of our weather here, makes for a perfect place to live in your car (if you have one) or on the streets...sad. :(

Helping other countries = charity. Helping our own country = socialism.

I love the US - by far the best place to live in the world. Yes certain places are shitty but hey so are they in many parts of the world within each specific country!

    USA USA USA USA!!!!!!!!!
