Forgive if this is a duplicate thread, I searched and came up without anything.

I have been listening to a lot of talk about "rep" lately.

What does "rep" mean to you? (relative to wwbm, or another forum)

The messages, which come with the rep are worthful, but the points itselves mean nothing to me.. the reason, why I always forget to give them, sorry at that point..:prayer:

Same here Christine. People's thoughts are sweet and/or amusing to read, but the points really serve no purpose to me. I do enjoy the unexpected messages though.

They mean nothing in the grand scheme of life. It's a nice pick me up to see a nice message but my self esteem isn't shaped by internet rep.

It rather reminds me of a girl on another board I go to. She posted a thread a few days ago and was quite upset. She had friend requested a guy on Facebook and her request was denied because he hads 4000 friends and Facebook cuts you off at 4000??!! She seemed geniunely upset she couldn't be number 4001. Why I don't know. If you do the math and those 4000 are really his closest dearest "friends" it's likely he won't have a minute to give her but once a year. People get a bit caught up in all the internet hoopla and take it way too serious. ;)

The positive rep messages are nice. They're like little love notes. It's nice to see that a post I've made affected someone enough to leave me rep.

But like most things in life it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

But I appreciate the comments. They make me smile. :smt050

No need to apologize, rep, no rep, who cares? We are in good company (for the most part lol)

I enjoy them also, it's like a little e-gift, some have even made my heart skip a beat!

Yes, people get caught up in this internet thing, it's crazy...I was listening to some story on one of those late night news specials, and some guy was initiating fake suicide pacts online. Apparently, there is this fad where people talk about suicide, make deals to do it if another does it, they even goes as far as to broadcast it over the internet. What makes it worse were some the messages, how a lot of the people involved were making it out as
no big deal (ex. I'm going to run some errands, eat, take a bubble bath, then get my rope & go hang myself). It was so amazingly un-amazing, if that makes sense to you. So sick, made me not want to go on the internet today.

Do you think the points exist to make people feel better about themselves, or some administrative reason, what do you think ladies?

Aww... those are indeed the best ones to get. ;)

I can't imagine that rep points make people feel better about themselves? That's just some arbitrary number on a forum, it has nothing to do with your real life. But I suppose if you're the sort who gets into the whole 'I'm popular' high school mentality, then maybe it would matter to you. Frankly I don't even look at the rep points, I just read the comments.

Rep don't mean shit. Y'all know me.

Another website I'm always on just added a rep system, but we just fuck around with it. I've been there for 4 years, so everybody knows me. No need to put rep in the mix.

like joanie and the rest of the scooby gang, it's the messages you get that i love to receive & absolutely love to give...hence the rep whore comments from me...knowing that something i've said has touched someone in some way.

I guess it means people value my input on the boards.

rep is like a secret message...a high five...you go girl...you just said what i am too afraid to say...real talk...no fear...i've been told i have balls for a few of my posts...i get negative rep once in a while and i am always happy to return the favor...i especially like getting suggestive love notes from crushes...i don't really care what people think of my posts...i didn't come here to win a popularity contest although i do bite my tongue more than i like...i'm sure some of you are very nice in person and then there are others that i really question if they are who they pretend to be on here...my god if they were that fabulous surely they would have friends and dates lined up around the block and not have time to post here 16 times a day...just too good to be true and i am not buying the bull some people peddle...simple as that...i give rep in rotation to a few people here...most of the time it takes forever to get back to them because i try and it tells me that i can't...that's a stupid rule!

if i give you a rep i mean it...not here to blow sunshine, rainbows kittens and fresh cut grass...my compliments are genuine...i don't jump on the bandwagon of every picture and i chose my words...i am sometimes a sucker for someone having a bad day but for the most part i don't participate in those threads...everyone has problems i just chose not to advertise mine here...

That's exactly how I feel. It's definitely a nice feeling...

I've gotten some reps where I didn't know what they were reppin' me about cause there was nothing explained, but I still think it's cool that they repped me to begin with. Again, it's the thought that counts.
