I had posted earlier before it occurred to me I should have asked the question, was having the baby your sole decision. Did you also discuss having babies while dating the guy and did he agree he was for it, or he wasn't, and was the pregnancy an oops ?

I guess you could say it was an "oops thing". At 19 years old I would've been crazy to actually decide to intentionally get pregnant. Basically we were both young, stupid, horny & not as careful as we should've been. I have no regrets about having my son, though. Having him was the only option imo. I'm not going to kill a baby just because it's inconvenient to have one. My stupid bf wanted me to put the baby up for adoption, but there's no way I could've done that either.

You make abortion sound like it's a trip to a candy store.

Even if abortion was an option, which BTW she made clear it wasn't, do you really expect her to say to her 19 yr old son, "hey, I contemplated aborting you and here you are now"?

I must be slow cause I really don't get your motive.

Come on mods, you're too slow, don't wait for something ugly to go down. Time to flush, this is a no-brainer. I may have to contact webbie and get my badge back if this keeps up.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.Isn't it funny that we sometimes play God on this notion of convenience? I guess it is convenient to think we have full control over our lives and the future.

You know I read a commencement speech of Steve Jobs at Standford some years back, and he talked about his mother giving him up for adoption because she was too busy with her postgraduate degree to have room for a kid. Maybe if she was able to see into the future she would have reconsidered that decision. On the other hand, maybe if she did not give him up we would never have had Steve Jobs or Apple, no one knows.

Still, it makes good sense to argue that if she were faced with the same options, she would not give up her child . Hindsight they say is 50/50...but with this sort of knowledge about potential of kids like Jobs many would brace the odds and do the right thing.

That does not mean I do not respect the right of women to make choices about their bodies and their future, but I have enormous respect for the woman that can damn the consequence and call the bluff of society.

You are a very special woman, Tamstrong. I mean it, you are one special woman.

Thank you so much for the sweet, wonderful compliment, Naija. I appreciate you. :smt058

I honestly made the only choice I could've made for myself in the situation. I'd gotten myself into it & it was my responsibility to deal with the consequences of my choices. I only did what I believed I had to do. I believe that until they come of age, we are responsible to God for our children, & I didn't want to rely on a stranger adopting him (if he could've gotten adopted) to take that responsibility as seriously as they should.

Sometimes though, the children are much better off, like in the example you used. There's a strong likelihood that Steve Jobs wouldn't have turned out the way he had, but of course, there's no way to really know. There are also parents with children who have no business with them who neglect, abuse & destroy them ruining their lives, so adoption is without a doubt a good option for those children. Obviously I don't agree with abortion (for myself), but I also don't agree with people who claim we have the right to judge others for making that choice. It's not my place to judge. I do pray though, for the women I've known who've made that choice, because it caused them a great deal of heartache. I hate to see anyone suffer.
