You know where I want to go evenutally, on a walking safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya or Savuti Plains of Botswana.

Surrounded by lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and other widlife while on foot and no vehicles. That would be intense.

It's just a short version of my real name which is a european one.

Augh, yes I do read her sometimes. Can't stand her politics as you can probably guess. She is very sharp though of course.

I read all the major papers daily, she writes weekly for "The Australian" which is known for being a conservative rage.

I agreed with a recent column supportive of internet retailers (there was a controversy here recently because some big major retailers complained about the exemption from a 10% good and services tax that internet retailers are exempt from at less than $1000). The stores are struggling to keep up.

But in that she called trade unions "thuggish" which I think is pretty rich. I am a strong unionist for the most part. I thought her other recent column about the "intellectually lazy human rights industry" was inflammatory as well.

I prefer her to most conservative commentators because she does actually construct her argument. She's an intellectual and doesn't just appeal to people's fears.

However if I was to be honest I'd say for me most of what she writes I don't agree with.

It's not too late to seek help. It seems to me you've got suicidal tendencies.

LOL, they offer those tours under the guide of trained park rangers and local tribesmen. I'm not going walking by myself in the bush. :)

You can't get much closer to nature than that.

Remember there are folks living in those places for eternity, ala the Masai people.

Plus the Park Rangers usually have a rifle handy in the unlikely event of something happening.

Just like they did it in the old days!

That sounds like it would be really fun, actually. I love being out in nature! Can I come?

LOL, you know you don't have to ask DB, you have your lifetime RSVP. :)

Just imagine walking on the wide open African Savannah.

Best news I've heard all day! ;)

That looks lovely, actually. One of my friends did a safari in high school and I've always wanted to go.

And not to mention, how fun would it be to have sex in the open air? ;) hehehe

LOL, hmm, never thought of that. :D

Might be hard to get some privacy among a group of fellow tourists in the bush though. :p

Maybe at night back at the lodge we can sneak in some loving. . :)

I forgot Mexico; Juarez, twice.. not by choice and not for vacation, it was for visa issues:)
    and Cyprus.

All time favorite, Greece (Santorini was spectacular) and Thailand (backpacked around there, absolutely fantastic).. I was there twice - one time in 84 - Phi-Phi island was fantastic then..later on, not so much. St Petersburgh was awesome but Im a fan of Dostoevsky so it was more a historical trip for me to follow his books. Eastern Europe has its charm, Prague is fantastic. Backpacking in Europe is the way to go. You meet so many wonderful people but it has its hazards..be careful. But do it!!!!

I wish I could explore the highlighted parts of your comment on another thread. Not sure why Internet retailers are not charged goods and services tax. I think the brick and mortar stores are shortchanged since they basically do the same work.

But then, something tells me they might have different markets, a big retailer is local and an internet retailer operates on the internet and would likely have consumer market outside the local community. I guess this is straight forward in the sense that you charge GST ( a redistribution tax) on consumer items sold in the local community whether you an online store or brick and mortar retailer.

GST is consumption tax, and I am not sure that people outside the local community should be subject to those taxes. I think it is a pretty straightforward issue to resolve, unless the government is deliberately using that policy to grow a new online retail industry.

The human rights bit, and Janet's arguments I live out until we settle on a a new topic on another thread. :D

Yes let's not derail but I like your points.

I'm no accountant but the way I understand is that it's simply that historically (roughly mid 70's- well before my time!) they determined a threshold below which it was not deemed viable to collect various types of taxed. The GST was included in this policy when it was finally introduced. Initially it may have been a $300 threshold, far higher than what the $1000 is worth today.

The structure was conceived before internet retailing boomed but regardless, they continue with the 'low value importation threshold'. Basically it was reviewed two years ago and they decided to let it roll on. They may have still deemed it not viable, but perhaps with a broader perspective of job losses generated by a reduction in online retail (rather than a specific objective to support it if that makes sense). As one example, Australia Post (now privatised) was first a public utility and people are very attached to it. It now struggles and parcel delivery generated by online mail has been a saving grace.

Too much trouble than the revenue is worth I think is basically the idea. Maybe also seen as discouraging investment.

HAHA, I was gonna say- I'm not sure too many people go to Juarez to see the sights. ;)

I'd love to see Greece and Thailand. I studied ancient Greek history when I was in college and even took Greek in high school...it's always been a fascination of mine.

I've heard that Prague is gorgeous. One of my friends went there...I really need to make my way across Eastern Europe. Budapest was as close as I got to that and I adored it there. They are so right when they describe themselves as the Paris of Eastern Europe!

Hmm, I think it's a little late now to backpack...but at least I get to travel with work, so it makes it easier to see places. This is actually the first year that I'm not taking a side trip because I will already be gone for 12 days, but I am really looking forward to the parts of Sweden I'll actually see. :)

Juarez was fuckin scary, I was standing outside the American Embassy for hours while they processed my papers the first time, the second time - they bussed us back over the border while it was done, because of obvious reasons. I wont do it again, that is for sure.

Budapest and Prague is FANTASTIC isnt it??!!!!
Backpacking is never too late - you would be surprised by the age of some people that actually backpack - they might not do the regular hostels, but they backpack...

A trip around the Greek Isles is the best! You can actually charter a cruise fairly cheaply w a few friends rather that doing the ferries that is extremely time-consuming but fun - for one or two trips.

Can I help w Sweden??? I think you had very limited time, correct???

Greece has always fascinated me, with all the little islands, beautiful Mediterranean climate, terrific food and historical sites. Would definitely love to experience that.

Other than Grand Forks, ND and Billings, MT, Greece is another place I've been too. I used to live there at one point. The islands are still nice places to go to, not so much the city, Athens.

I forgot Europe! DUH. Most of Europe quite a number of times. My parents were both born there too.

I must have gotten distracted at Singapore. My man travels much for work so we usually make time to go together which is good. That is when I have time off from work.
