First of all, yes I do advocate forgiveness, but nowhere did I call for that here, although it may have been implied. What I said, is that it’s POSSIBLE that, having been caught doing what he did, it MAY have served as a wakeup call, prompting a much more thought out apology. I have to give him some credit – at least he owned his wrongdoing and apologized not only to the black community but to those who raised him. He acknowledged that the wrongdoing was his. He was not raised to think or do the things he did in that video. He failed a lot of people. And he offered his own apology which is more than the other kid did. He let his parents apologize for him. I have no idea what’s in that young man’s heart and NEITHER DOES ANYONE ELSE! If anyone thinks they do, they're only kidding themselves. He may be a to-the-core racist but I’m also allowing for the fact that he’s still young and his values may not be set in stone yet. There’s room for introspection and change. If that weren’t the case, we’d all be in trouble because every single one of us here holds some type of prejudice.

Now if taking the view that there’s room for another POV besides that the kid’s a racist through and through with no room for change makes ME a racist, so be it.

So True! I've always had a really hard time understanding how people who have been treated so badly can turn around and be ok with another group of people being treated the same ways. I've gone rounds with some of my family members over things....makes no sense at all.

 

Because oppression is ok unless you're the one being oppressed. Italians Jews and Irish are perfect examples of this.

Yah I know....I find it all really disgusting. My dad and grandfather were treated so badly and went through so much and I still couldn't believe some of the crap that came out of my dad's mouth. First of all, I'm not talking about Jews. Secondly, nothing about my post is weak. What I suggest takes strength and is backed up by real world history. Just kicking them out of school does nothing but entrench their views while similtainiusly driving them underground. In effect, they just know to keep their mouths shut now. And that's cool until it comes time for their asses to hire, give a loan to or invest in a African American.

From Ghandi to King to Mandela the proven effective, real world way of making meaningful and lasting changes in situations like these is to change minds. And you do that by being the better people, by educating the ignorant and exposing them to the people beyond the stereotype.

Ofcourse, if you think I'm wrong you are more than welcome to disprove the ways of Ghandi, King or Mandela. 'Cause it doesn't get any more real world than those three.
