Oh, I could bloody hug you right now! You're the best, mate! I'm going to google that information. If anything, I could be going there a lot sooner than I thought. We will see.

Yep one of Teresa May's proposals is whittling down the amount of visa's for family members to almost nothing.

So i should imagine once the new legislation makes it onto the Home Office shop floor, that kind of visa will be non-existent.
6months Tourist is the best you can hope for IMO, although there is talk of changing the vetting criterior for that, due to the amount of peope that fail to return to there own countries after the 6 month period.

I do so wish we had a cap on EU Immigration though, that's the only thing thats gonna make a dent in the deficit.
My pal works in new claims at the Benefits office and People can come from anywhere in the EU claim tax credits and Child Benefit for children that aren't even in this country, but they are perfectly within there rights to do it, bloody crazy.

The chicken are coming home to roost. For centuries, the Brits went every where their bloody heart desired with out any immigration quotas posed on them, now they have all these third world folks who do not want to leave their small island. WoW, mother nature is interesting. I love world History!

The British Elite WANT high levels of 3rd world immigration.

    Same with this Country.

The UK has always been difficult to get into if you wanted to live there permanently. I tried looking into it when I was considering going to school there to get the heck out of dodge. It didn't happen because it would've been too difficult to try to stay and work through school breaks- the red tape on that was amazing! And I was dating someone in the UK at the time, and even he didn't understand all of the rules. It was a hot mess.

Now, I have dual citizenship- USA and EU via Italy, so that's kind of cool. Makes travel easier, and I could technically live anywhere in the EU if I chose (France! Here I come!...someday..).

NC- good luck getting to the UK. :)

Its pretty hard in general to get citizenship anywhere in Europe from what Ive heard. If you can some how get citizenship in any European country (especially one in the European Union) it will be WAY easier for you to move around Europe.

    incorrect

my ex husband had been in the uk for 5 years before we married, he did not get to stay in the uk, in fact immigrations "idea" was to send me to a war zone and have us then try and apply for a spousal visa to come back in with a 50/50 chance of being turned down over and over again ( ive known women married to turkish men whove had to apply and appeal more than 5 times )

and at my daughters school theres a woman in the process of being returned to nigeria where her husband was murdered and her baby attacked. shes been here 5 years, has done alot of work in the community and has had another child whos only a baby and yet the government see no issues in returning her and all the children despite death threats

our immigration system is rather odd

Yes, this is true for some places. Fortunately, I was able to get citizenship through Italy, which is a bit easier than most other places. It just took a long time. We applied in late 2008, and it took almost a year.

Let's call it what is "Racism in Immigration". Something that gets skirted around the circle and know one want to touch it, let alone discuss it. The Western World Powers are secretly afraid of the Third World Invasion via immigration. The white male dominated west sees many white females crossing the racial fence for these non-white males coming out of africa, asia and latin america and it is scaring the hell out of them. They see interracial marriage between non-white males and white women as being the greatest threat to future white male dominance politically, economically and socially in the west (U.S., Canada, Europe) in this new century. When i hear talk that England will cease being England (translated white England) or that France will become a Muslim nation then that fear of being minimized racially is taking on a slow budding national mindset. It can prove dangerous in the future if ultra far rightists movements emerge to change the course, so to speak.

umm no it is called economics. Europe's population is decreasing! They need the immigration but they need people who can contribute and not folks who are a burden to the country.

Europe needs immigrants but much (though certainly not all) of society rejects that notion (post-industrial unemployed white male working class, much the same segment of the US population that swings Republican Party politics to the extreme right). Their resistance shows that economics is clearly not the only consideration driving the body politic. The same dynamic is also present in Japan (albeit complicated by extreme ethnic/racial homogeneity) and its treatment of Asian guest working populations.

Damn. I've been considering moving to the UK but after reading this I'm going to look into the restrictions involved in moving to Germany.
