comment on tyra banks show topic called biracial backlash ...a new generation ogf young biracial kids are claiming their black side but not their other side . Do you feel this is wrong or some weird backlash .
People should be allowed to identify with whatever side they want in my opinion. I know personally a few biracial people who reject their white side, it's seen as kind of normal. But yeah, if they want to identify as white that's their decision. If I had a biracial child I'd hope they'd identify with both sides however.
to think, it would be the opposite not too long ago... some people believed that Mariah Carey played to her white side, more often than her black side, and that bought her some attention with that issue now..thanks to 50cent, Jayz and RocaWear, being black is cool :smt109
Bloody hell I need to learn how to read. But yeah, same answer, other way around. People should be allowed to identify with whatever side they want.
I hope that my kids (when I have them) will identify as much with my culture as with their father's. I haven't seen this (or any) episode of Tyra Banks, but perhaps the reason kids are identifying more with one side or the other is due to their upbringing? Maybe one parent is more dominant in their life than the other? Or maybe the area they grow up in is more dominant in one culture than the other?? Could be a number of reasons. Either way they, as has been said, should be able to identify with whatever side they wish.
The melanin in their skin often times gives them a closer look to black than white, so they identify with their black side, especially when a lot of outsiders/strangers/people put them in the black category automatically. When I was in school I did a few research papers in sociology, and there are a lot of studies that show: depsite verbal confirmation, biracial (black & white) children see their own skin and try to identify what is closest within their "color stock" when parents are opposite colors, which a lot of time happens to be the black parent (based on color, not psychology).
A mufucka can identify with what they feel, but they better not be ashamed of their "other side".Don't forget where you can from, because how will the parent who is the color you are ashamed of feel?
