TRUMP Thread

Last night's election results were a shellacking that I haven't seen since 2006. It may be even more seismic than that. As I write this, Mississippi is still in play for a Senate seat. Mississippi!

Hopefully, the GOP will finally reject MAGA/Trumpism and once again become a serious political party that focuses on actual issues that people care about and not anti-trans/culture war bullshit. This is that teachable moment that Barack Obama once talked about.

Let's see if they learn anything from this.

Mississippi!!!! I'm just going to let that sink in a bit. I was so hopeful for Angie Nixon in Florida and she came close, but no cigar. She came the closest Dems have done in a statewide election since 2018. I worked that one and progressive forces lost by 0.47%. Now they have to govern with a populist economic message that speaks to everyday working people's economic realities. And Republicans need to wake up and smell the coffee - it's time to drop the culture war bs. I'm not sure they will learn this lesson, however, as they've built much of their platform and party's direction around white grievance politics. The old days of the live and let live socially Republican Party are long gone. No more calls for low taxation rates and an orderly society, they're on to something wholly different. I'm excited to see what happens next.

They have spend so much time over the past three or four years being so extreme on trans everything that they completely lost the plot. Who cares if a trans woman uses the women's restroom at Target, when 1) I can't afford to drive to Target because gas is so expensive and 2) I can't afford to shop there because everything is so much more expensive now? That might play when times are good, but when times are not only bad but have gotten significantly worse on your watch? People got sick of it in a way that shocked even me, and I have been sick of that shit for a while.

It is too bad about Florida, but my home state of Georgia elected not only the first Black female governor in the country, Dems swept all of the statewide offices many of whom are Black women. And none of those races were really even close.
