Ok, so i have noticed my "friends" on facebook seem to be airing their dirty laundry a lot on their status updates. I'm not gonna lie its entertaining, but my question to you is do you think there is such a thing as sharing too much? Or maybe you're the sharer??

My herpes is flaring up again.

    Edit: Hopefully that's not TMI?

Believe it or not, despite the people complaining of lack of privacy from a technological standpoint, people are simply more comfortable sharing a lot of their lives on there since they have a place to express themselves. It's the beauty (and curse) of having technology and freedom to do (almost) whatever the hell you wish.

American culture has undergone a huge transformation in how we view private matters, and I have to think that it's influenced other societies too. I see it as a problem and tend to place the blame on thirty years of talk shows and tell-all memoirs. I'm not a fan of revealing intimate details about myself and could care less about the lives of most people. Keep that shit to yourself.

I think it depends on who the audience is. On FB, I'm only connected to either very good friends or friends of friends I've gotten to know. I do occasionally mention issues related to MS because several of my friends have it, and we find it a good way to share information.

And I occasionally make reference to my personal life, but not a lot. Mostly, it's a political and humor platform for me.

I saw a picture a woman had put on Facebook of her giving birth, not like a nice one but legs akimbo, baby's head half out, blood everywhere. WTF. Straight punanny shot, the the photog went right between so he could get all her internal organs on show. That was too much.

LS, it's Fright Fest in honor of October on that blog I showed you. ;)

I think, in general, as long as we don't see crap like this (warning: there is blood involved, but this was actually posted on FB), or Goddess forbid, THIS!!!! (warning: again, a real FB post, but it's..uh..kinda gross) I think we're safe.

The sad thing is, people like the posters in the referenced link think it's "cute" to post.

I think I need to go get my sick bucket. lol

Yes there is definitely such a thing as sharing too much. I'm amazed at some of the Facebook posts I see and some of the blogs that I've run across.

It doesn't need to go back to 1950s privacy, but man, some people need to learn to keep some things to themselves.

In this day and age, the definition of privacy has changed dramatically. With people having their own "personal space" to type whatever, they're just more comfortable sharing stuff.

And hey, if you don't like it...don't read it. But....that's so hard to do since we are pretty much wired to develop concern or curiosity of other people.

I do agree. I read an article that said if you wouldn't shout something across a crowded room then it's not appropriate to post on you Facebook or other social network page.

IE. Jaisee shouting across a room...."my herpes is flaring up again". No doubt everyone in the room would give him the look. :p

I am too scared to look! That site is hilarious ;) awful, addictive, disgusting and funny. Parents + FB + potty training/birthing pictures = NO! I'm going to man up and check the links out, await my reply filled with puking emoticons lol.

Unsubscribing a lot of people on facebook... TMI is one of the reasons.

That's a great rule. I'm going to make sure I follow it.

As for BBW, sometimes when you're reading your news feed, you can't help but read TMI before you realize what you're reading.

It's hard to distance yourself from reading TMI, especially if the ones doing it don't do it all the time, so it's kind of pointless to unfriend them for the few times it actually happens.
