I know. I'm following, but sometimes you slip in world, which a lot of Americans do unconsciously when stating a widely held belief.
They didn't think of him as black because he's not black, it's like a girl sleeping with Tyson Beckford and fantasising about some obscure Asian ancestry he might have when the man she's sleeping with is physically black, makes no sense.
Me?? identifying with Tiger?, I didn't know I was Asian?, I'm biracial, Tiger is not, that would make sense if I was trying to make the point that Obama is not black.
Let me preface this by saying, in AMERICA, we call Tiger Woods Blasian. He wanted to add his Caucasian ancestry in it and not deny it, and call himself Caublasian. No one ever looked at him as majority Asian. NEVER in AMERICA (and I don't think elsewhere, but for you, I'll stick with America solely).
IN AMERICA!!!!!!! They look at him as HALF BLACK and HALF ASIAN. No one denies he's not non-White nor does he, but they surely don't go around labeling him as such.
emprium- I think you said you came to America a couple of times b4, where did you go and how long did u stay in this crazy land?
Fair enough if they want to ignore the fact that his father is kinda light-skinned and has Asian eyes. I don't identify with him, I don't see him as a brother and I'm not proud of his achievements like I'm proud when I see Shwayze with his blonde model, he'll always be Asian to me because that's what I see when I look at him.
Nevada and New York, I only stayed for a couple of months but my nephew lives in Wisconsin (crazy I know, my nephew is about the same age as me)
Again you assume to know how they percieved him. Race is a nonexistant social construct. So whatever you are percieved socially is who you are to the populus regardless of phenotype. I can explain it better than that.
Race is a social construct but physical differences are genetic, being light-skinned or dark-skinned is genetic.
Even within supposed racial groups there are different shades and physical differences. So what's your point? Thai people don't look the same as Japanese but both are Asian. West Africans don't look like East Africans yet both are black. The Swiss look different from the Russians yet they're both white. So again what's your point.
Do you understand that it's possible to not be "physically" or genetically "Black" in the U.S, and still be considered part of the African American ethnic group? You probably already know this and probably have an issue with it, you should be arguing that larger issue. Watch this video. Tiger woods is "Black" because people see him as such. My point is that "racial groups" have certain similar features like skin color, hair texture and such, Thai and Japanese don't look the same but they all have similar eyes and faces, Swiss and (typical) Russians don't look the same but they all have caucasian features, race may be a social construct but we all know white skin and blonde hair are European features, that's what I'm talking about.
