How are things in your part of Europe?

 

Let me say something about this paranoia you mentioned. When you are in the majority you tend to see things differently to someone who is in the minority. Let me give you an example. Where I`m from originally there are very few whites. My wife and I were at one of those house parties so common in that part of the world - where one wonders how could so many people fit into that house and still have a good time. There was a WW from Canada also at that party. I think the only white person there. I knew her so I asked if she was enjoying herself to which she replied yes but she felt that people were staring at her. I later told my wife that I think she was wrong because every one in that house had studied in US, UK or Canada and so had seen white people before so why should they be staring at her. But was she right? I really don`t know but logic tells me she was wrong.

 

Yes Othello - I am sure you are right about that. The only thing that bothered me about it was- when I think black people are staring at me(even if they aren't) - there is no need to have a heart attack about it. Just like his adrenaline would go into overdrive if he thought white people were staring at him! But I am a very patient and loving person-so I didn't nag him aboout this.

 

Here in Berlin people are starring when I´m on public transportation with one of my black students.

Men in arab tea-shops look most jealous though. :lol:
And suddenly black men with mixed kids start saying Hello.

 

Seeing and hanging out are two different things. And like most (not all) people who don’t hang out with people other than their own complexion, will always stare when they are not accustomed to seeing to what in their eyes is normal.

I posed a question on the “Conversations Between White Women and Black Men” forum in regards to having friends outside your complexion that you hung out with which only two people replied.

I doubt she would say that if it weren’t true. The only reason she didn’t leave because she was strong enough to know the starring was not in a negative way.

 

BMAB,would it be insulting if I asked a Brit woman if she reads New Nation or The Voice newspaper?
