I actually watch IR movies sometimes when I might not be interested, such as Guess Who. I expected it to suck, because there is no way you can do a comedy of Guess who is Coming to Dinner and do it justice. However, the more the industry realizes there is interests, the more it becomes acceptable. So I want to support that, so more IR films are made. In the end, I enjoyed Guess Who.. Sorry for pulling it off the topic a little..
I thought the movie 'Something New' w/ Sanaa Lathen was really good for an IR flick. It was very realistic and up to date w/ the reasons why BW are trying WM.
The thing with IR flicks is that hollywood or (white independent film makers) would rather make six billion films like this than show black people being in love---they're usually fighting or killing each other (not that the producers should care.) Yeah but anyway, Something New was made by black women and it is in response to the diminishing marriage options for many black women. So, ya' desperate? Date a white man. No matter how many times I try not to think that about the movie, I do anyway.
LMFAO! You're crazy. Did you see that Dave Chappelle episode where Wayne plays as himself and he is showing the dark sides of his personality I guess in response to everyone thinking he's soft? (ahem...Who's The Boss, I think you're one of them.) Anyway, as the bad Wayne, he is a murderer and even a pimp. As a pimp, he says to one of his h*** (because she made the least amount of money then his other women) "Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch." Now that was classic. I was rollin' for days because that was so out of his character. Made me like him even more. lol. You see, Wayne makes Nick look like Richard.
Movies like these and this 'Something New' shit that has created a buzz isn't worth my time, when I can be finding something else (not new) to put my time and energy into.
^ Yup, same here. Have you found more black women trying "something new" because of the controversy of the movie? Is this what you mean by the buzz created? I can't say that I know many, but there are a couple who think one movie should dictate their lives.
The whole theme of the movie was to show that you don't always need the same or similar color of your skin to find love. Of course it's controversial because he is a WM. They could have casted an Indian man, but I think the movie was giving theaters a chance to cross color lines with the mainstream audiences right now. Some may have their doubts and questionable opinions toward 'Something New' but there have been PLENTY of movies with BM/WW. I think it's nice to see the reverse.
There have been plenty of movies with white men and black women also. Ever heard of Halle Berry? Plus, it's just Hollyweird's agenda to promote more IR between black women and white men, and less IR between black men and white women, as always, and Guess Who should also ring a bell to you.
I think it's their agenda to promote both: Hitch even though they put in Eva instead of Cameron, Monster's Ball, Guess Who (and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner), Training Day, Boiler Room, In the Mix, Save the Last Dance, O (and Othello), Swordfish, Jungle Fever, The Body Guard, Queen of the Damned, Finding Forrester, Angel Heart, One Night Stand, 007 Die Another Day, Mississippi Masala, He got Game, Made in America, Do the Right Thing, a couple more with Angela Bassett and Whoopi Goldberg and so many more but I'm drawing a blank.
Me too. Call me cynical and hateful but Cameron Diaz and Will Smith look just as good as Denzel and Whitney Houston. Odd combination. Cameron is so goofy, stupid and has a hopelessly naive on-screen persona to me, contrasting to Will Smith's adorable, undoubtedly cool and enjoyable performances. Eva Mendes is a very underrated actress to me and her beauty makes her the perfect one. I wonder if Hitch would have pushed many numbers if Cameron Diaz was cast. My guess is obvious, NO.
Cameron plays too many dumb blonde parts.. she would have played to weak a character.. Not to mention Eva has the strong latina attitude that made the spirit in that role believable.
