I am very dissappointed that the world rejected my adopted home city Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics. WTF? Chicago is a first class city and has lots of rich history. WTF?? we get eliminated in the 1st round too???
Also, why would Obama go to Copenhagen with out knowing this is in the bag? I am might be wrong but this is taking uncalculated political risk, and it is not smart of him. I know he probably had pressure from his buddies Mayor Daley and so on.... but hot damn, 1st make sure at least we were going to be in the final before heading there.
The extreme right wing nutjobs going to hammer this down and say... look he can't even get the olympics let alone negotiate a Nuke talk with Iran. Man oh man, Letterman sex scandal coming out on the same day as well.......Fox news and Limbaugh are going to have a field day today.

Yes, they are....It's already started - the Obamas are being blamed for not getting the Olympics here. This was all Mayor Daley's baby. Not Obama's. People need to chill out on Obama.

I'm rather happy the Olympics won't be here, though.

I saw some of the final presentation, Chicago's was flat in comaprison to Rio, WTF? Also they should have incorporated Jordan and Walter Payton family in their final pitch, those are one of the few 1st class world athelte that the city can show case, Brazil brought Pele.

He really had no choice. The heads of the other competing nations were there and he certainly would have been blamed, by his home state and republicans, if he did not go and Chicago lost. Now he'll only be blamed by republicans.

Also, the Olympics is as much about politics (and money) as it is about sports. From the days of Hitler trying to showcase the Nazi regime and witnessing Jesse Owens, to the recent U.S. and Soviet boycotts.

Agreed. But as the leader of the free world and this great Nation, Obama should have make sure that we had a pretty good chance before flying there. Now the extreme right wing nut jobs are trying to equate this with some of his policy.

Because of Chicago's corrupt history, the head of the IOC do not trust Chicago. Governor Ryan is serving time, Blagojevich might head there soon, and Daley also has his corruption problems. Chicago has long history of business shake downs and it is a very tough job to convince the Olympics committee and the head of IOC. In addition, Brazil had a pretty good chance as South America had never hosted the Olympics before.

I hardly call pitching for your home town & country that you were elected to lead show boating. All the world leaders of each country were there as well, why can't Obama participate? The Rethuglicans were gonna blame him either way, imagine if he hadn't gone. They would probably say he doesn't care about America, the messiah thinks he's too good to go etc. From the start he was damned if did and damned if he didn't, what shame.:smt011

The Olympics not coming to Chicago, has nothing to do with its corrupt history, but RIO DE JANEIRO!!??? I mean, Buenos Aires or Santiago, but that slaughterhouse. They might as well have the Olympics in Tora Bora. Well, I can’t blame them for trying. I guess Atlanta 96 has the Olympic committee still in a hangover. I guess their motto is, hell, they may cut or shoot us, but at least they won’t set a truck bomb off on us.

I will say that the Republicans are dancin the friggin Charleston on this news. I always thought they loved America. I guess when you lose the White House, the Senate, the House, the majority of Governorships, and state houses, and city level leadership, I guess you’ll take what you can get as a conservative victory.

I think that Obama was probably asked to do a favor by Daley at the last minute. Irrespective of whatever Chicago's chances were before Obama decided to make the trip, I don't see the problem with the President of the United States lobbying on behalf of one of the major cities in the country. The people who attacked Obama for taking less than 24 hours out of his schedule to make this appearance are going to attack him for anything. Look at this at shit: Conservative conference attendees erupt in cheers when U.S. is eliminated as Olympics site. I guess "America First" really was a meaningless campaign slogan after all. These people hate Obama and the Democrats so much that they were vehemently opposed to something that would have been beneficial for the country as whole.

Man, there's corruption in every major city on the planet. The old school machine politics of major U.S. cities like Chicago and New York are relative tame compared to what is normal in many other countries. And despite the fact that Brazil's economy is ascendant, there are some SERIOUS is issues with corruption, inequality and violence in that country.

Here's a good segment from Rachel Maddow's show examining the absurdity of the controversy surrounding Obama's trip to Copenhagen, the Right Wing's reaction to Chicago losing the bid, the notion the that "the world rejected Obama" and that this is somehow is serious failure on the part of his administration.
