The wife of Clarence Thomas called Anita Hill

The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas out of blue called Anita Hill to ask her to apologize for accusing the justice of sexually harassing her, 19 years after Thomas' confirmation hearing spawned a national debate about harassment in the workplace.

Virginia Thomas identified herself and then said, "I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband.

I always wondered about this case. I have seen old tapes of the proceedings, read some books, articles and listened to some shows.

I would love to read what you intelligent folks of this forum think- Was Anita Hill telling the truth about being sexually harassed by Thomas? Or was she lying on Thomas to prevent him from getting the Supreme court job
    ?

I don't know much about what happened, but seeing as it was 19 years ago, I would personally say, leave it alone... However, being his wife, she may have first hand experience or been witness to the affect it had on him, maybe not career wise in the end, but on his reputation.

It was 19 years ago. He has became a supreme court justice, rich, powerful and still retained his marriage. Why is Mrs. Thomas still on this chapter?

Could it be that she is indirectly trying to get to the bottom of the truth, assuming the truth is not what she was told by her hubby. Why is she out of the blue after 19 friggin' yrs calling a woman who has been humilated and rail roaded on national TV. I am just tryin to use logic here.

we'll, most likely, never get the whole story - however, human nature being what it is, Anita Hill gave amazingly specific & detailed instances of harrassment - too specific & detailed to have possibly been a figment of someone's imagination. Anita Hill conducted herself like a lady throughout & I would be willing to bet that she didn't really want to testify, as the details were quite embarrassing. When Thomas testified regarding the allegations, he came across(imo) as extremely insincere & a liar...

I believe she was telling the truth about that dirty asshole! I also respect the fact that she had the guts to get up there & testify, because I'm sure it was a nightmare for her. There was nothing imo that indicated she wasn't telling the truth, whereas he came across as a lying, arrogant dick!

As for his wife calling her, to me it's like a desperate plea for her to not have her doubts about her husband confirmed. It's evidently been eating away at her all these years or she wouldn't have felt the need to make the call.

I remember it very well, IMO, he clearly made some inappropriate remarks. However, the question that many people had was did it actually cause damage to her career. It certainly offended her. The laws that are now in place make that question immaterial, before the laws where not clear.

To many women it never mattered if it hurt her career, it was just him using his power to belittle her. If a man thought C. Thomas was immoral or ethical for his behavior, other people would question his manhood or call him too spineless to stand up to a woman. If a woman thought A. Hill was telling the truth she was called a femi-nazi or lesbian.

Times have really changed, no one uses name calling to deal w/ or deflect important questions anymore (just a little sarcasm).

Today, just like then it would come down to which party had more members on the committee, and a side deal or two if needed, would be made.

Btw, The Senators on the committee included Strom Thurmond, a legendary sexual harasser, booty pincher and breast groper. He fathered a child with a 16 year old black girl who worked as a domestic for him, decades earlier.

When a nation elects people like that to represent them, we deserve to get individuals like C. Thomas to interpret the Constitution for the rest of us. He is a political lackey who willfully serves the interest groups that put him on the Supreme Court without fail.

19 years pass and she need comfirmation that the man she lived with all this time wasn't guilty. The Thomas' must have an odd relationship then.

You've got a good point JC. She could just really believe in her husband that much. I hope for her sake that she didn't have to suffer with doubts about him all these years, but she wouldn't be the first wife to stay with & defend a husband who's guilty of something this serious. I don't know if her motivation is about getting peace of mind or closure or whatever, but it's a sad thing if it's been eating at her all these years. Hopefully her motives are pure, whatever they are. :smt017

I kinda sorta was in agreement with a former colleague...that back when he was awaiting confirmation to the Court, HILL had made these accusations against THOMAS because she was cheesed off at his marriage to a White woman...

It mya just very well have been the case then..

As for this Present Day 'phone call fiasco...kinda odd gig...

I don't know what to make of it..:smt102

Anyone notice that during the lunatics voice message Mrs. Thomas states -"consider apologizing for what you did "with" my husband." Not what you did to my husband. I think this lunatic is trying to pump up interest because she's probably writing a book.

That makes a lot of sense; it would be a pretty good motive for bringing it up again after all these years. Whatever her reasons, imo she's out of line & she needs to leave the woman alone.

Clarence Thomas had a Black GF at the time when Anita Hill worked for him who basically confirmed that ol' Clarence was known for making inappropriate sexual comments to women at work.

Anita Hill always came across as very credible to me; she never said he raped her, but he was always trying to step to her and made several inappropriate sexual comments, ( asked her if she thought Long Dong Silver's cock was real!!??):smt021

Look, the GOP wanted to stick a thumb in the eye of Liberals by nominating a Black conservative to the Supreme Court, made worse by the fact he simply wasn't an exemplary candidate for the bench.

This wasn't a case of Black women 'hating' on a brotha IMO, instead a creepy Negro with whack social skills got over on the Senate Supreme Court confirmation committee.:smt047
