LOL, a lot of women think 'stay at home mom' or 'homemaker' are degrading or outdated, so they prefer 'domestic engineer' or 'domestic goddess'. Espy-there is significant monetary rewards (i.e saving). They save day care expense, baby sitter fees, travel/driver expense, school fees (if home schooled) that adds up over the years. It is the toughest job and in the same time the easiest (you get to spend with the ones you love). I can't see any other job being as sweet as this, unless of course I am starring opposite Monica Belluci. That's it! I am ready for Mr. Mom job. I am going over to local HR to look for ads so I can turn in my application.

Agreed on the savings aspect GZ. However, if mom gave up a 40,000 per year job to stay home, chances are the savings don't equal the loss in income. That is dependent upon the number of kids of course, as day care costs are a killer, despite the fact that I think good day care providers aren't paid nearly enough. Still having 2 or more kids in day care at the same time is very financially draining. But it's the things you can't put a price on that really matter, like being there when they take their first step, or the first time they say mommy or daddy.
