I have to wonder what kind of mentality people operate under when this kind of behavior is going on.

I think its a matter of a culture of violence against women period.

We have heard of these stories in other societies as well in places like India, Afghanistan as well as other parts of Africa all too often.

You also have numerous cases of acid being thrown in the faces of women to blind and disfigure them by individuals who think women are property to be controlled and can't handle rejection by women.

This is just a barbaric mindset that reveals core issues around relating to the value of women.

Anyone who possesses values and respect for a woman couldn't partake in this filth that goes to the core of violating a woman's body, mind and even soul.

    Sick story indeed.

Whether the story would be popular on racist site or not is besides the point.

I am more disgusted by this
Violence, be it sexual, physical, emotional, exists across the globe against women.

The point to me is the disgusting reality of rape in a nation like South Africa, where a woman can be a likely victim at any time.

Its many other parts of the world around these issues as well Iggy.

As I mentioned some other places on the globe in an above post.

They are all sickening to the core that this mentality and behavior abounds in regards to women and how they are treated.

It goes even beyond the rape, to the position and role of women.

Frankly if I had a say I would cut off the dick of every rapist scum on Earth. Turning them into a eunuch. See how they like that.

Africa is a different continent and not just geographically, I would even say it's another world...what is going on there isn't easy to understand for Americans/Europeans or Australians. We are very lucky in the way we live, about our police system and the basically trust to our governments.

It's problematic for me to have a post that concludes that Africa is 'fucked up', without any context or analysis.

    It plays into stereotypes.
Rape doesn't need 'context' or explanation, but IMO the high incidence of rape and AIDs in SA is the symptom of a larger societal problem that began with apartheid.

In many parts of the world, the term 'human rights' and especially the rights of women is an abstract concept.

How many women in the U.S. have been raped or sexually molested??
It's not an issue exclusive to SA.

i don't understand your comment, there are stories of gang rapes in america and in america we at times are behind our african neighbors in regards to the role of women in certain areas, such as politics.

I will cosign with some of you that America isn't innocent either. We have a problem with rapes as well.

I was referring to Iggys comments that SA and some parts of Africa are fucked.. not to the topic of gang rape.

In some african countries you feel like in a civil war, human rights as we know do not exist, the people are full of fear. I.E. I've never seen before or could imagine that soldiers fully armed come in groups to a club, order one bottle of Jack Daniels after the other, drink and shout at civilians..if someone defends himself- he is shot and there won't be any investigation...a few weeks before the same people (or same group of people ) killed more than 180 civilians, raped and kidnapped women to kill them afterwards in a cruel way

You see the people running around with ipads, but there is no electrity in their houses, hygienic, medical help? Not existing, people fight for daily survive. So I think we must use different scales than we would use in our industrial continents. Some Africans try to do their best (as you can see how the economy is growing in Angola) and some leaders just see their possibility to satisfy their greed and sadism..

On the other hand I honestly think that some african countries just need their time to develop and serious partners that are interested in development and not just in sucking them out

    Very true in that regard.

China is now the new flavor of the day for some African countries when it comes to investment and economic ties. We will see where that leads down the road.
