    Any surprises? Snubs?

    My surprises:

The little girl from The Beasts of the Southern Wild getting nominated. I think that's very cool.

Alan Arkin, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sally Field being nominated. They were good, but I thought there were more deserving performances.

Katherin Bigelow NOT getting a nod for Best Director.

Almost the entire Directing category is a gigantic head scratcher.

I'm also happy to see Bradley Cooper being recognized for Silver Linings Playbook. He, unfortunately, doesn't stand a chance against Daniel Day-Lewis, but it's great that he's been recognized for that movie.

    My snubs:

    I'm saddened that:

Ben Affleck didn't get a Directing nom for Argo. That was a well-done movie.

Leo DiCaprio didn't get a nom for Django Unchained. He was amazing in that film. He should have taken Alan Arkin's spot.

To a lesser extent, Samual L. Jackson not getting a nod for Django Unchained.

It was definitely a very long shot, but not seeing Tom Hardy and/or Shia LaBeouf getting recognized for Lawless. They were both so excellent in that movie. Unfortunately, Lawless didn't get the recognition I thought it deserved in any of the awards shows.

The Dark Knight Rises not getting a "pity" Best Picture nod.

I'm sure there's more, but that's good for now.

I like Everybody Needs A Best Friend from Ted. And Skyfall's lyrics are pretty deep. Good luck to those nominated.

    My picks...

    Best picture

    Life of Pi

    Director

    Ang Lee

    Lead Actor

    Daniel Day-Lewis

Although I'd like to see Bradley Cooper win, just for the heck of it. :)

    Lead Actress

    Quvenzhané Wallis

    Supporting Actor

    Christoph Waltz

Although I did have a feeling Robert DeNiro might win...but no, I'll stick with Christoph.

    Supporting Actress

    Gotta go the Aussie..

    Jacki Weaver

    Animated feature film

    The Pirates! Band of misfits

    Cinematography

    Claudio Miranda

    Costume Design

    Les Misérables

    Film Editing

    Argo

    Makeup and hairstyling

I'd like to say that Hobbit will win, but I feel like the same thing that happened with LotR will happen with Hobbit as well. So...

    Hitchcock

    Original score

    Les Misérables

    Original Song

    Skyfall

Only because I personally LOVE that song...not for any other reason. It probably won't win, but I can hope. :)

    Production design

    Anna Karenina

(I think Hobbit SHOULD win, but probably won't)

    Sound Editing

    Argo

    Sound Mixing

    Les Misérables

    Visual Effects

    Life of Pi

(although really I think Hobbit should win)

    Adapted Screenplay

    Argo

    Original Screenplay

    Django Unchained

Lol did you see Adele's acceptance speach when she won the Grammy for skyfall? She made me laugh, such a breath if fresh air in a room full of people who take themselves way too seriously

    Who watched it?

When I first heard Seth MacFarlane was going to be the host, all I could think of was, "oh dear God, what is the Academy thinking??"

Turns out he is a GREAT host. I loved him as the host. And I don't know what they did to the show this year, but I found it completely engaging and entertaining the entire night.

I was overjoyed that Quentin won best original screenplay for Django Unchained. Of the 7 Best Pic films I saw, that was my favorite. In fact, it may be my favorite Quentin film.

I'm so happy, though, that Argo won. That's a great film and Ben Affleck so deserved the win. He's a great director.

Speeches: Quentin Tarantino's was awesome, probably one of the best ones. Jennifer Lawrence's was cute.

I'm no fan of Daniel Day-Lewis, but damn, his funny and heartwarming speech made a believer out of me.

Ben Affleck's speech at the end was awesome.

Dresses: Jennifer Lawrence looked absolutely gorgeous. I loved Reese Witherspoon's dress. Jennifer Aniston looked gorgeous, though I have to agree with someone who wrote on my Facebook page that she needs to do something with her hair. The more I thought about that, the more I agree. Kristen Chenoweth's dress at the very end was gorgeous.

    I'm sure there are others.

I had no doubt that Daniel Day-Lewis would win for Lincoln.
Skyfall winning Best Song was no surprise, either(it is a deep song and up there with the best Bond songs).
Jennifer Lawrence winning for Best Actress is a long stretch from playing young Mystique in X Men : First Class and Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.
And Christoph Waltz for Django Unchained.
Congratulations to all that won and to those that were nominated but didn't win.

The Oscars are fabulous. I had to admit the Shafner segment was boring and the discussion of women's chests is a bit juvenile. The show stoppers brought down the house!

I stopped watching award shows back in the 80's. The last great award show that I saw was back in 1978. The show was The Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Awards. It would later be known as The Saturn Awards. Anyway, this was the show that featured William Shatner's classic performance of Elton John's Rocket Man. Seth McFarlane used it as a reference in an episode of Family Guy. Baby Stewie performed it the same way Shatner did.
