Are there any other OREO brothers in the room, who do not fit into the black mainstream culture of the music, the dancing, the "have to be DOWN" behavior?

Just want some like minded folks to talk to?

I guess you can count me in that category then......
Never been into any type of black music, except jazz, smooth jazz, and SOME,AND I DO MEAN SOME, R&B. A lot of black music is very regressive and energy-sapping to me. It also paints a false sense of what being black is about.

I listen to Rock, J-pop, fighting or video game music, and movie soundtracks...Yes, I am a strange one,
But you have to remember that I am a digital artist and we are the type to always go against the norm. These types of music help me on those days I am mustering up adrenaline in the gym and when I am on the train going to work.

    I don't dance.....even though I used to be a hell of a gymnast.

I also don't have the down behavior......
Here is how I feel about it; Even though I am not 100% black (very few born in the U.S. are 100% pure bred), I feel no need to prove my heritage to anyone or prove that I am down. I am comfortable with me even if I get scrutinized. I will give you an example:

I have LOOOOONG hair that reaches to the middle of my back, but I never wear it in cornrows, dreads, or any other so called, "black" style. I wear it in a ponytail. Imagine a male version of pocahontas with muscles. 8) The only people that have a problem with the way I wear my hair is black women. This one girl had the nerve to tell me that I don't embrace my heritage and some other BS. She didn't know that I have job with a corporate dress code (men with long hair must have it in a bun above the collar line). You wanna know my response to her? :D

I told her that she should stop slaying horses and stop stealing hair from other animals and start wearing her REAL HAIR first before talking about culture to ANYONE. I thought it was hilarious and needless to say, she left me alone and never spoke to me again (awww). That's one of many problems with BW, too much fakeness with the hair, nails, and God knows what else.....

Anywho, sorry to go off like that, but I feel you on that one tuck.

well, nice to meet you nilan! i guess we share alot--i love jazz, blues myself and I am also mixed with multiracial strains.

you are probably very cool in the way you wear your hair. not many of the black women i see who like the corporate types too, and reject me outright--especially because i also dont sound like i come from the neighborhood

No. An oreo is black on the outside and white on the inside right? So, what part of your character/personality do you consider to be the white part?

  15. msjade

    msjade New Member

Well....Goes without speaking...definately the outside....minus a bit of an olivish complexion(sp).... ... Personality wise...thats a tad hard to answer...can you actually have a black or white personality/character...?

in the 80s and 90s there used to be many more Oreos, but now since living in more urban areas i have found most blacks to be for afrocentrized but thats probably because i dont see many middle and upper middle class folks, most are working class or poor and angry
