This is not a good sign for the upcoming Blade MCU project. I suspect they (Marvel Studios) may be laying down the groundwork for the storyline of the movie. It wouldn't be the first time they introduced a female character to the Blade story only to have her pretty much take over the show. (Blade The Series)
I don't see them doing that. If the character was already established with a built up fanbase (ala Miles Morales, Kamala Khan or Sam Alexander) then maybe but not a fresh out of the gate character that no one yet knows how comic readers/fans will relate to.
Yeah why do all the Black Males Heroes seemingly have to hang around with a younger Black Female Ready Made Replacement who is better then them in at least one way...whereas that never occurs for the White Male Heroes.
War Machine and Riri WIlliams (Ironheart) Blade and his irrelevant daughter when we haven't even had time for Blade to shine. No banging hot vampire princess for this Blade. Black Panther and Shuri. The most egregious in my book cause they took one of Marvel's only top Black Genius and nerfed him to prop up a supporting character. When they could have just made Shuri a magic caster. Doubly egregious when they can get their Black Girl (Magic) Genius in with Riri and knew she was coming but still decided to fuck over the Black Dude.
Main reason they need to do a recasting of T'challa for MCU is not necessarily him being Black Panther but actually showing him as a king/leader of the most technically advanced nation on Earth. They literally have not established what kind of leader T'challa is in the MCU. That's bigger than his rule as Black Panther IMO.
I don't think they will give her the lead right out of the gate, but if the trajectories of the other solo male hero movies are any indication, they probably will write her in as the co-lead with intentions of spinning her off or replacing the lead in the sequels. They are doing it right now with Black Panther 2 (allegedly) Thor 4, and there were significant talks about giving MJ powers and spinning her off as Spider-Woman in future MCU movies.
Again don't see that as a viable option in the MCU. If they did decide to do it it would be quite a few years down the road (10 or more) and that's only if the character herself becomes somewhat popular on the actual comic book end of things. All these other female characters that have been mentioned for MCU as replacements for various male heroes built up a fan base over years & even then they didn't stick around as the permanent replacement for the male heroes. Yeah, I know MCU is different & kinda falls into real world rules. Jane Foster Thor in Thor 4 I don't see as a permanent thing because I think Chris Hemsworth as Thor will be around for a while. Even if they play around with her being Thor on Earth, Thor being basically immortal they have a lot of avenues they can explore with that character for awhile. Even as Hemsworth ages all they have to do is actually make him King Thor for a rebuilt New Asgard like he currently is in the comics. Black Panther franchise is up in the air IMO because no matter what direction they decide to go in there will be factions of movie goers & comic heads who will be upset with the decision. Same with Spider-Man since for all intents & purpose Sony still has final say so on whatever happens with that franchise & anything related to it directly or indirectly. Anything Sony does that doesn't involve MCU input seems to backfire.
Thor is a bit different he got his 3 Movie Trilogy. Even if his first one was just decent and his second one was trash. Three solo films and get rotated is the standard MCU method. The difference is for Iron Man they never really established a replacement. For Cap...he was always superior to Bucky and Falcon. Thor...he really didn't have a replacement either. But for Black Panther and Blade...apparently we need a replacement ready to go day one. Who will no doubt be better in some way.
I am not trying to bench him...I think the MCU might. The only saving grace so far I suppose is casting wise I haven't seen anyone who looks like his daughter. Maybe his son but not his daughter.
Seems a bit short given how stuffed this movie is supposed to be. No way Home was 2hr 28 min. Felt longer but in a good way.
I was going to post this on April Fool's, but I forgot. The picture is so dope I want to post it anyway.
Like @Skaddix said it's not about canceling him on our part. Ever since the MCU became the most valuable product in the entertainment industry, Marvel has used its comic book division as a marketing arm of the movies. So when they announce a story or character change in the comics there is a fairly good chance it's a setup for a movie, like how Jane Foster's Thor is back in the comics, because she is premiering in the movies, or like how Nick Fury became black somehow in the mainstream universe, and how Star-Lord suddenly became a pivotal part of the universe. I hope they don't bench Blade or make him a part of a duo, but I wouldn't put it past them to do it
I get what you are saying but the character is literally just being introduced in the comics and ya'll are expecting Marvel to rush her into the MCU. They haven't even established what Blade's purpose & status will be in the MCU yet much less how this daughter concept will play out in the comics. I'm not disputing that the character could eventually show up in the MCU, but that if they do bring her into the MCU it won't happen anytime soon without that character first being vetted through a few years of comic stories. If they rush her into the MCU without vetting her on the comic book end, then it's for the purpose of killing her off in the MCU for larger story purposes.
