There was the Fox show called M.A.N.T.I.S. with Carl Lumbly and Roger Rhees. It didn't last long, but it had an original premise. The M.A.N.T.I.S was an exoskeleton capable of giving its wearer( the handicapped scientist) the ability to walk, run, jump, climb and it had some non-lethal applications on it.
Martian Manhunter had his own show? But it cancelled? That's a shame being in the entertainment business. Sink or swim.
I think Carl Lumbly's voice for the Martian Manhunter came from M.A.N.T.I.S. Before that, he was a regular on Cagney & Lacey.
The 2 hour pilot for M.A.N.T.I.S. was pretty sweet. It was created by Sam Raimi and Sam Hamm. It kind of felt like a cross between Iron Man and Black Panther with a bit of Batman thrown in. And, it was socially aware. But, when they brought it back as a TV show they changed it drastically. Bryce Zabel became the show runner and he immediately dumbed it down, white washed it and loaded the show with every tired cliche you could think of thereby totally 'effing it up. He got his start in the superhero genre working on Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. So, he became the go to guy for superhero tv shows of the time. He'd also go on to ruin The Crow franchise with that crappy Crow TV show. If anyone remembers it, they know what I'm talking about. The guy is a hack. So what did he do? Got rid of all of the black cast (including Gina Torres) except for the lead actor. Then he brought in two white guys. One was a fellow scientist who helped him develop his tech. In the original pilot he developed everything himself. Then they brought some whiney assed white kid who wanted to join the team. The scripts were weak. The villains were stupid. It was just bad. It really seemed like they ruined it on purpose. The pilot was so much better with a cool little twist and a fresh take on a superhero. Had they stuck with Sam Raimi's original creative direction for the show, it would've been a hit. Instead, they took it somewhere else. And that somewhere else was straight up garbage.
First news on Guardians of the Galaxy http://movies.yahoo.com/news/disney-sets-14-movies-14-including-first-peek-220809726.html As an added bonus, we get to see the Marvel Prayer and it goes something like this... Our Great Movies, which art in Marvel, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Greatness come. Thy asskicking be done in movies, As it is in Marvel. Give us this day our daily Marvel Film. And forgive us our trespasses of watching DC Films, As we forgive DC that sucketh against us. And lead us not into DC Films, But deliver us from DC Films. For thine is the kingdom of Disney, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. AMarvel..
I didn't know that Sam Raimi helmed M.A.N.T.I.S.. It would've succeeded like Hercules and Xena if Raimi stayed on. I think he worked Darkman after M.A.N.T.I.S.. I remember not being all that crazy about Lois & Clark, although it had a good cast. It just goes to show how timid some studio execs can be. I recall Nightman. I thought it could've been a better show if the effects were better. But, this was the 90's.
LOL. I had heard some time ago that The Flash is going to have a film. I had heard that Guillermo Del Toro will direct it . It would be great if it had Gorilla Grodd in it. But I had not heard anything about it since. But a new DC/WB animated film is due out soon if it isn't out already.
Justice League: War is coming out this year....around February and it's loosely based on the New 52 story, if I remember correctly. With the popularity of superhero movies returning, it's no doubt that we can see another movie...but DC does need to gather their actors and actresses and crew together to make it a big impact.
The more things I hear & see regarding this movie, the less enthusiastic I've become about it. Gamora & Drax look like shit. And don't even get me started on how they have Starlord looking & supposedly as just a normal guy. And a smuggler/thief at that???
Yeah I noticed that about Starlord too. I guess the Han Solo archetype is to hard to get away from. I am a little encouraged that Zoe Saldana looks a bit more "filled out".
So after years of making him unrealistically bad-ass as possible that he became boring & over used, Marvel is getting rid of the healing factor & the built in retractable claws in an attempt to make him interesting & relateable???
Am I the only one who remembers that wolverine also has heightened senses How come that's never in the movies
I recall reading a Wolverine graphic novel. I remember a scene when Wolverine deploys his adamantium claws, he stated that it still hurts him from time to time when he does it. I think to remove the healing factor from Wolverine is a bad idea. The healing factor is, IMHO, his best advantage. Batman must have some influence here because he uses his mind and body. Wolverine uses what he has, too. But Wolverine is not Batman. The common thread that they share is their training in martial arts disciplines. Batman was a Ninja. Wolverine tried to be a Samurai.
It was until everyone decided to keep blowing it up to ridiculous levels. That combined with the jump the shark move of deciding he always had bone claws despite all the years prior to that particular revelation where it had been established & actually shown on more than one occasion that his adamantium claws were cybernetic implants. So much so that it was part of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe back when Marvel first printed it in the mid 1980's.
