Anyone watching this? You got two seasons to binge if you want to get into it.

    Great sound track too.

It's based on a book of the same name. 2 percent of the world population just disappears the writer intentionally doesn't give a reason as to why this happened some think God took them some think there is a scientific connection. No one knows and it's really up to the reader/viewer to think what they want to think.

The woman in the second video had her whole family taken (husband and two kids) she got up from the kitchen table to wash her hands turned around and they were gone. No explanation no nothing.

It's basically people dealing with the loss and cults also pop up.

Some will like it some won't. I for one LOVED it. Regina King is in the second season.

Sophomore Jump: How The Leftovers Became the Best Show on TV

One of the most significant consequences of #PeakTV is that viewers don't have the time or patience to wait for a show to figure itself out or course correct after a bumpy first season. If your show doesn't initially grab the attention of the audience—or does so for wrong reasons—you're fighting a very steep uphill battle to change the perception, even if critics are in your corner. For shows like Halt and Catch Fire or Tyrant, the apathetic response to Season 1 meant that few people cared to return to improved second seasons (though the ratings for the latter are much, much better than those of the former).

But the response to HBO's The Leftovers was more than apathy; I'm generalizing, but viewers seemed to really love or really hate the show's first 10 episodes about the aftermath of a mysterious (and generally unexplained) event that removed 2 percent of the world's population. Even as a member of the former camp, I had a number of reservations about Season 1 and totally understood the more negative responses littered in the comments here and around the web. I also therefore understand why, if you disliked Season 1, you probably haven't returned to the show this fall. Plus, there's just one episode left in Season 2 (it airs this Sunday at 9pm; I'll have a review for you), it's the end of the year and you have a lot happening in your life, so chances are low that you'll jump to blitz through many hours of a heavy show that you didn't like in the first place.

Nevertheless, I'm here to tell you that, at some point in the near future, you should catch up on The Leftovers. Specifically, I'm talking to those of you who dropped out in disgust or frustration at some point in Season 1. Here are three key reasons why the show is better in Season 2 and so very much worth your time, #PeakTV and all.

I haven't seen The Leftovers, but I can still wholeheartedly disagree with the statement in bold.

THAT distinction belongs to Game of Thrones. :smt023

I will agree with overall on the game of thrones but there are some game of thrones episodes that are meh, though most are good. But I haven't seen a episode yet of the leftovers that is bad.

I watched the first season and I was quite looking forward to seeing it when I was seeing the trailers for it.

Halfway through the whole thing started a downward spiral for me, it was quite interesting with the Sheriff and you think the wife is one of the one's who have disappeared but she's just joined a cult (the people in the white outfits that don't talk) and I was totally bloody confused once it got to the part where Liv Tyler (or it looks like Liv Tyler) after being somewhat a reluctant member of the cult has in fact become some kind of leader for them.

I didn't start watching the second season as it felt a bit Twin Peaks to me, more questions than answers.

How was liv Tyler joining the cult confusing to you? She was at first a reluctant member of the cult then rose to become the leader of that sect. If you watch the second season you will see some of her back story. Second season for me was better than the first

It was showing her as a reluctant member clinging on to normality and then next thing she's in charge of dragging people into that van (i think, been a while since I watched it)
If they are giving back story in the second season then maybe it's something best suited to watch all in one go.

Are they doing a third season? or is it finished now? I might download it all when it's complete and watch it that way.

The first season was really strong, especially with the score by Max Richter. However, the second was more of a disappointment. While it tried to make Justin Theroux's character a bit more complex, it deviated from the general theme behind the book. It's ironic since the writer of the book was actually deeply involved. That, and I think when the second season had a different opening, I think that's when an omen hit on the quality of the show. Still, if there is a third season, I'll keep an eye open for it.

I'm of the opposite opinion I think that the second season was better than the first. Actually had s couple episodes that teared me up. I won't put spoilers.

Sometimes... what works for the book, doesn't necessarily work for television.

Wish the walking dead would have kept with comics though because geez that shit is horrible.

LOL... it isn't bad, but it isn't great.

The whole unkillables aspect of the show is terrible. The comic takes no prisoners. Then the fact that there are episodes where absolutely nothing happens.

I'm not implying that the second season was terrible by any means. It was just lackluster. Not so much for the deviation, but the fear and concern over The Sudden Departure has been replaced by some conspiracy theory bit and pushing the Remnant cult as more of a villainous role, instead of a grey area.

I thought it was okay, but was hardly as strong as the first season since they failed to examine how people are coping with the aftermath even after it's been long. The children, who we all initially thought were "raptured away", wind up joining the cult sort of took away that aspect of a strong plot development. They could have kept that line, but they could have carved out a better, more thorough explanation for the children to be brainwashed, instead of just disappearing without a trace. Still, there were some bright spots, such as the main character's sanity put into question.
