Just wondering if anyone has been watching The Boondocks cartoon on Cartoon Network. I'm glad they have finally brought my favorite newspaper comic strip to television. Aaron McGruder is being true to his word and pulling no punches with the show. So if you are offended by the use of the word nigga and other politically incorrect racial comedy, I feel sorry for you because you're missing out on a great show. The last episode centered around R-Kelly's sex with underage girls troubles and the black people who support him no matter what he does just because they like his music. There was also an old uncle Tom who thinks American slavery was good for black people and says that he's not black; he just has a skin condition. And there was a black lawyer who tried to prosecute R-Kelly but lost his case because the black women on the jury were mad at him for marrying a white woman. And mixed within all the comedy is a message, just like the comic strip. I still watch cartoons and the ones on the Adult Swim section of the Cartoon Network are some of the best ever on TV. I even like some of the ones that aren't on the Adult Swim section such as Teen Titans, Totally Spies and The Justice League. Check them out sometimes. Peace. ______________ Am I considering becoming a black bull?....
I don't have cable now, but I have been a reader of the strip for over a year now, and I like some of the shows on Adult Swim, like Samurai Champloo, Futurama, and Home Movies, and even shows that are not a part of the Adult Swim channel block, like Teen Titans, Static Shock, and and on occasion, Justice League, when they air a good season of the show, unlike when it first premiered, and I hate Totally Spies, so no go on that one.
BD Nov 20 episode On next Sunday's Boondocks Grandpa is dating a White Woman. I don't know if she is a prostitute or has a job. Stay tuned.
Re: BD Nov 20 episode She was both, a prostitute who had a job as a stripper. And she was FINE; I'm talking about Jessica Rabbit fine!!! Unfortunately for old Grandpa, she was a golddigger and her ultimate loyalty was reserved for her pimp. I have to say that I'm loving this show because it's really addressing some hot-button issues. Peace (P.S. Thanks, SardonicGenie for the www.assparade.com I'm loving the blonde maid and that Mexican girl in the tight white pants). ______________ "Your wife moaned like a whore when they ravished her...."
Now I'm even more tempted! I gotta see this show. I might have to rent a motel room for a night just to see it, since I don't have cable anymore. I bet it's as funny as the strip too... and, thanks for making the thread, Mosiah.
i dont watch the show, its blatantly racist and anti IR, and biracial. I guess when they have a racist white supremacist cartoon we will love that one too
I doubt this very seriously, especially if the cartoon targets controversial issues only to encourage more critical thinking of the pressures of society, like race relations and IR.
thank you this is what ive been saying, you also notice how the only time your sure your looking at a black person is when its a negative character? this cartoon is a load of shit and its full of so much passive racism and anti IR agenda. its like the kkk decided to push their agenda through a black show. it is overtly racist against darker skinned people and looks like its showing the sort of racism a white man would like to see. bottom line, no matter how this is marketed it is not a black show.
I noticed that everyone who argues that this cartoon is racist, is often racist themselves, or has a hidden agenda. It's just a comedy anyway.
you might like the show but it does not change what we are saying or make it any less true. In future i would ask you to keep your generalisations to the show and not the people discussing it.
Those who judge the show are generalizing what the intent of the show is for, COMEDY. A lot of conservatives try to say that this show is racist and hateful, but that is mainly because it is a black cartoon show, but also a controversial one.
only thing i find controversial about the show is its racism against black people and how this show can ever be seen as a black show when the television version is clearly intended for whites. this is why almost every episode starts with "let me tell you something about black people" or something like that. black people already know about black people and dont need to be told what black people are like.
Oh, I don't know. I just think that in his own way, Aaron is trying to encourage more of us to think about things.
Sardonic those conservatives don't about racism if it hits them on the head. That self hating brother represents people like Sowell and Williams.
I just finished watching the Boondocks tonight. This episode was about Martin Luther King Jr. and his impact on today's black community. In the show, Martin Luther King Jr. had awakened from a coma after being shot in 1968 and saw how today's black community had lost their spiritual and moral values. And the white community called him an unpatriotic traitor to America for saying that America should use the "turn the other cheek" approach to fighting terrorism. So Martin decided to create his own political party. But when he attended the rally for the party, he was basically ignored as the attendees were only concerned with listening to loud hip-hop and collection-plate-rattling black "preachers." When he attempted to speak, no one listened until he spoke to the masses in the only language they understood. He got angry and called the whole lot a bunch of lazy niggas and said he was moving to Canada. Only when he started using the n-word did the black people listen. It was just the tough love they needed. Then the NBA players, rappers, and other celebrities started coming together and making positive changes in the black community. At the very end of the show, MLK died in Vancouver, Canada and Oprah Winfrey was elected President. The Christmas Boondocks show was great, but this Martin Luther King Jr. episode was even better. And as a black man living in MLK's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, seeing a show like this has special meaning for me. Atlanta is a city of transplants from all over the USA and it's very sad for me to say that many people no longer care about Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. They almost act as if he was a sellout or an Uncle Tom for trying to get all races of people to come together with nonviolent social change. Some people seem to think that it's impossible to share love for BOTH MLK and Malcolm X, as if there was some unspoken competition between the two. I had a conversation with a girl from New York about MLK and all she did throughout the whole dialogue was make fun of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Southern accent. How quickly black people have forgotten about him and the life he gave. It's sad, really. RIP, MLK and thank you Boondocks. Peace. __________ "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live."
I watched some of that episode tonight. And it shows alot of what I've been saying. The state of the black community is horrible and I find it disrespectful to everyone who died for freedom and civil rights.
See, this is why I like Aaron McGruder. Even though he lampoons us more than whites, he does it in a beneficial way. Much respect to him.
