I am sorry for your loss and all that you went through. People are just plain stupid. They have*no idea of what they're doing and what impact their own actions would have on the people they hurt. Live your life for you and no one else. They haven't walked a mile in your shoes.:freehug:

“The strongest steel is forged by the fires of hell. It is pounded and struck repeatedly before it's plunged back into the molten fire. The fire gives it power and flexibility, and the blows give it STRENGTH. Those two things make the metal pliable and able to withstand every battle it's called upon to fight.”

Never forget how strong you are IR family.

Loki, thank you for your encouraging words.

I guess it's easier for me to talk about this now since it happened several years ago while I was stationed overseas in the Navy. A lot of time has passed and I don't speak of this often but felt inclined to share my own personal experience since it had such a tremendous impact on my life and this thread in particular.

Indeed, I am stronger today. I often reflect on my most difficult times to remember to be thankful for the trials I have endured and remember I am still standing today through them.

How long did you serve in the Navy?

I did 6 years. I was stationed overseas in Italy for the first 3, then in Norfolk for the remainder of my short career lol

In retrospect, I should have went reserves. I was young and didn't think it all the way through. I had my first oldest son while I was stationed overseas but shortly before I chose to get out, I was a new mommy again and my next duty assignment was on a marine cruiser and I was going to be deployed for 5 months. I opted to get out to be a mommy.

Now that I work for the Fed, they take your time in the military and the time as a government civilian to factor your federal time in service. I still get little benefits but none like those compared to retiring from the military.

    Kicking myself now.

Life is good but could be so much better!

Can't you go reserves now? I thought there was no age distinction if you were a vet

I feel like we've talked about this before...

With my discharge, although honorable, I am coded in a way that I am not allowed to reenlist. When I got out I asked for a hardship discharge because I was a single parent.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I wish I had did the next tour and finished my enlistment at least.

Can you imagine me in the military!?

I can't. Some people are cut out for military life and some aren't.

Thankfully, I've had a great career and many opportunities so I'm doing great for myself. With the new job series I am now under, my ceiling is much higher and I hope to thrive a little longer before I branch out to working for myself.

That's dope. Often thought about working for the government but unfortunately it doesn't pay as well as the private sector does right now.

Cherok33 I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure your sons father wanted to hunt down the cowards that wrote that message, for hurting you at your lowest point. No one should ever have to deal with the loss of a child. It's just not how things should work. To endure that and remain the positive individual you are speaks to your strength as a woman and as a mother.

Thank you honey :freehug: I strongly believe that we become stronger as life deals us our hardships and it matters most how we choose to handle them which speaks to the type of person we want to be.
