Ali fought 11 rounds with a broken jaw back in 1973 against Ken Norton, now Arthur Abraham fought 8 rounds in spite of a double fractured jaw against Edison Miranda , both putting their health and lives in jeopardy.
Both are called heroes for this performance. Is it really heroic to do something like that?

I'm a huge boxing fan. Boxing is a blood and guts sport that's meant to prove your toughness. I think it is heroic if you can fight through severe pain and injury. It proves the measure of a man to overcome adversity and win while enduring such hardship during a fight.

For example, American boxer Tim Austin got his jaw broken in the first round of his 1997 fight with Mbulelo Botile of South Africa, but he came back and knocked Botile out in the eight round. He held his Bantamweight title for six years, when he was beaten by current champion, Rafael Marquez of Mexico. Here's are photos of Tim Austin:

    Peace.

I love all sports, and played mostly soccer...so I`ll extend my that sport...when you are playing, you are in a sort of transe...especially if the game is important

I remember playing in a semi-final of a tournament with a horribly painful shin injury...of course my life wasn`t in danger, but that thing hurt like hell...after the game I could barely walk, but I refused to get off the field as we were leading 1-0...and of course after the game I limped for the entire following week!

It `s the same for these boxers...is it really heroic? kind of...but really it`s just the passion...the compettive nature...you just can`t leave in the middle of the fight or surrender!! NO WAY!! :)

Oh my god! this is pretty common then? Dayum!
I love to watch boxing (especially heavy weight fights [IMG] ), but this one was too much for me, and I thought: well, some people are going to lose their jobs because of this sh.... I was more than surprised when I read the comments the following week, without even a hint of criticism, everybody talking about "what a fight", "hero", "great", and so on ...this almost shocked me more than the fight itself ...

One more question: Is it true that the dopamines that are produced during such extreme sportive activities give you a feeling comparable to an orgasm?

I believe you are referring to "Endogenous Morphinics" alos known as "Endomorphins" (literally meaning "the morphins from inside").

These are molecules with a structure and effect similar to morphin (soothes pain, gives a pleasurable "high" kinda feeling)...the difference with morphin is these come directly from our own internal hormonal glands and are released in the brain!

We secrete them when we have sex as well as when we are doing an effort THAT WE LIKE (like during SPORT, they are secreted along with Adrenaline). The feeling is a sort of HIGH, for instance, the pain isn`t as strong during a game...usually after the game, the painful feeling comes back stronger!!

Yes, the feeling endomorphins give is good...but close to orgasm during sport is a bit...exaggerated :)

  How did you know that I think he is cute? [IMG]
Probably posting all these pictures gave it away! eh?

Yeah, Calvin didn't look too good in the fight, in a matter of fact, the whole fight wasn't really a highlight, a lot of stumbling around. I was never a big fan of Wladimir (Í preferred Vitali though), but no doubt, compared to 2-3 years ago, he certainly became a very good boxer.

Abraham's name shouldn't even be mentioned alongside Ali..

Abraham ran like a chicken AFTER the refs STOPPED THE FIGHT to let his bum-ass recouperate..

If that fight was anywhere but Germany(corrupt boxing country) that fight would have been a TKO

That was the most PITIFUL display of CORRUPTION I've seen in boxing for quite a while..
