I'd believe anything this man says... lol  but seriously, :smt023 check it out: http://www.50millionpounds.com/ The 50 Million Pound Challenge is an historic opportunity for African Americans to come together against a growing health crisis. Our challenge is to collectively lose 50 million pounds and reduce the very real risks that being overweight poses to our community.
The guy from Celebrity Fit Club... :? I like the idea, but doing this would be a bit difficult. First of all you have to take a look at the food places in the black community. In my city there are no food markets in the black neighborhoods; however, there are convenience stores, but they don't sell fruits and vegetables. Also there are plenty of fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc.) in the black neighborhoods, so there is a constant fulfillment of burgers and fries. Driving or riding the bus to the other side of the city just for apples and oranges.... I work out and lucky to be in an area where there are food markets.
You are right that in a number of “poorer” areas you’ll find more unhealthy choices but I think the overall “fatness” of black people in America has more to do with long ago family traditions coming out of the South. Things that were in play long before fast food became popular. I’m from the South but I’m not “poor” and my family never was either but I know I could drop a pound or 3 [30] and I know how to eat right and I know the health benefits but….. Well there you go. It’s a good idea overall because due to extra fat – black people have higher heath risk than we should. But also to your point about the food choices people have – You’ll find that in poor white areas as well.
In the News/50 Million Pound Health Challenge Over all it's a good positive step in the right direction.Actually according to 2008 projected health statistics, obesity is a worldwide problem spanning across all racial lines. So, it's good to see this initiative, and I'd love to see how it turns out.
Yeah, family traditions is another factor. It reminds me of the movie "Soul Food". A family eating all that food every Sunday.
