:smt056There is no doubt in my mind that there are several men that would like to get in line for that job, Espy. It will happen whenever you are ready for it to. I hadn't thought about not moving my head so I wouldn't get sick. Fortunately, I don't have them often enough to have to experiment with treatments. I normally just go to bed for a few hours and sleep it off. However, I will keep that remedy in mind the next time I have one.

 

Another trick is to take 1 Dramamine, 2 Aleve, and drink a Coke or Pepsi. The combination of caffeine and vasodilation from the Aleve with whatever is in the Dramamine works about 80% of the time for me. The only problem being that I'm such a lightweight that the Dramamine completely knocks me out for about 6 - 8 hours, but it doesn't affect everyone that way. So I only do that when I've had one non-stop for a couple days and can't get rid of it.

 

Thanks for the advice, Espy. I'll try to keep all this in mind the next time that I have one. I hate that you know so much about it. They are just miserable to have.

 

Thanks GG, they run in my family and I've had them since I was 16. They got really bad a couple years ago and I started having them about 5 or 6 times a week. Fortunately I've got that down to 3 or 4 a month, so it's bearable. I'm used to them really, as long as I can see and I'm not vomiting, I just keep to my usual schedule. I've only had a couple that last 2 or 3 days and those really suck, but that's like a once a year thing. But it does make you look for alternative ways to cure them since I can't take the migraine medications. You pick up lots of little tricks along the way.

 

I'm sure that you do look for alternatives. I had my first one in college, and I was having them daily. My doctor put me on a migraine medication. One night after leaving one of my sorority meetings, I couldn't remember how to get home. I got in my car and drove for about 15 minutes before I knew for sure that I was going in the right direction. I had been taking the medication for about a month. I stopped taking it, and I wasn't having the migraines anymore. Now, I get one about once or twice a year. I'm not really sure what happened, but I was very thankful that they did.

 

Some of the older migraine meds caused rebound headaches in some people, so that might have been why they quit when you stopped taking it. Most of mine get triggered by drastic changes in barometric pressure, and that happens here frequently. If I'd move somewhere with more stable weather, like California or Arizona, there's a really good chance I'd have only a couple a year. It's tempting at times to consider that.

 

That's very interesting about the older meds, Espy. I could see why you would want to move. It would definitely be worth looking into if you could get away from having them.
