They Wouldn't Let Him Play Halo 3

When the 16-year-old Daniel Petric was caught sneaking into his house with the popular Xbox game Halo 3, his minister father, Mark Petric, would not allow him to play it. Mark took the game away from Daniel and put it inside a lockbox.

Daniel later found the game inside the lockbox which also contained a 9mm handgun. Daniel took both then went into the family's living room where he asked his parents to close their eyes, telling them that he had a surprise for them.

Mark expected a "pleasant surprise" from his son but instead felt his face go numb. Daniel had shot both of his parents in the head. His mother, Susan, later died of her injuries. On the witness stand, Mark told the court that his son felt remorse.

Yeah it happened not too far from where I live, about 50 miles/80 kilometers from here. I understand that the kid was upset because his folks wouldn't let him play the game, but to go and shoot them (and kill his mom) is just illogical. I would hope that he spends a significant amount of time in prison. He deserves life

    Oh Christ, stop the presses!!

You pull one extreme example of a kid's selfishness resulting in tragedy out of your ass and it's automatically the End of the World--Arma-Fucking-Geddon.

    Give me a break dude.

I'm about to mouth off, so look away if you carry for the gun lobby

What is fundamentally wrong in US Society where there is such a high gun crime rate- especially perpetrated by youth?

I lived for 18 months in Denver, CO when I was young.
Walking through a metal detector every day before class was wierd, and I resented it. My brother went to Columbine high. He was home sick the day of the massacre.

In Australia, the most recent statistics are:
    - 269 people murdered by any means
Our population, as of today is 21, 534 882 people.

So our murder percentage is about (I say about because the murder stats are from 06 but I have used today's pop) . 0.00125

Link for stats from our national statistical government body below.
I don't know the US, so don't know reliable sources to quote, but I'm confident the violent crime percentage is much, much higher.

Even if you include "homicide related crime" (ie attempted murder, negligent homicide), that figure is about 700 people.

That percentage would be about..0.003 of the whole population.

Something has gone very wrong in the US with these types of violent crime at that rate.

No, it's not an attack on your patriotism. To care about someone (like your country) is to acknowledge a problem.

Yes, we have had some problems.

Our mass murder we did have was one of the worst the world has seen.
35 people shot dead at Port Arthur, Tasmania (a historic tourist site) in the 1990's by a crazy guy with a sub machine gun.

There was an amnesty on handing in weapons, gun laws- already strict- were tightened big time- and since then our murder rate has fallen steadily.

The constitution's "right to bear arms" was drafted during a time of civil war.
I don't see how this extends to Ministers of God like in the story above with guns in their home, or people packing a concealed weapon on their trips to Wal Mart and the grocery store.

The fact he shot both his parents in the head kinda explains why he shouldn't have been playing Halo 3 in the first place...stupid ass kid. And unfortunately he'll go to prison soon when he turns 17 or 18 and he'll be in contact with real G's. They'll have to put him in protective custody because that dude is going to be passed around more often than marijuana when Katt Williams visits Snoop Dogg's house.

If everyone thinks this is about a XBox game they are sorely mistaken, no matter how bad it sounds these things are usually an outcome of a long run up of problems.
IE just because the father is a Minister does not make him or his wife an automatic good person, although im not saying they aren't, just think about things we dont know, we just dont know what led to that action, maybe he just has Narcissistic Personality disorder, and it really was about the game although thats a rare disorder! but in that case he is ill not evil.

But i agree with Leksola,Guns around the house are a big problem, something they bought for protection ended up being used against them.

We've had Amnestys here in Britain, Gun and Knife! we have a problem with knife crime here, an awful lot of teenagers killing each other, police are allways saying dont take knifes out to protect you, you are more likely to use it (obviously) or have it used against you, the same applies to guns in the US, an awful lot of people must get killed with there own guns, sadly ironic i think ;)
