Talking Tolerance by Acting Intolerant

It is great to hear people talk about how tolerant they are and yet when someone says something they dont like they are so intolerant

I love parents who say they are not racist or prejudice, but then freak when kids bring home a darker than expected mate

 

I see what you mean. The same way people talk about not playing the race card, and then do it themselves. A lot of white people accuse us of doing it when they also do it.

 

It is understandable though if it has not happened before and then does. Might be a surprise. Most people say they are not racist and then might appear as is because they have not probably experienced an racial encounter before.

 

True Sup, but if one is not racist why would race be an issue? If they react badly then it is about racism, as it is see one race as wholly different than another

 

Yes but like I say I think it is being surprised and not that they are thinking racially.
If I had a white girlfriend and her parents mouthes dropped to the floor when I walked in, I would not be angry after I left, I would understand but hope they accept me as the person I am eventually. Sooner the better though.

Are you saying YOUR in this situation with your girlfriend's parents ?

 

No, why? it is just the point of this issue. not talking about being surprised, talking about being hypocritical--a person saying they are open minded and yet not accepting of IR relationships of their children or family members or friends

perhaps it isnt an issue in Germany but in the rest of the world it is common

 

Ok sorry. Just the way you said "I can't control what they do" sounded like you were specifically talking about somebody, sorry.
I'm talking about being surprised. I think it can be a reason for people being hypocritical in this kind of situation, as you agreed.
Yes it's an issue here...possibly bigger than there also, as I think its a smaller minority.

 

I would think that their being surprised would have something to do with racism, especially if they overreact to it.

 

totally agree with you, the fact that they are surprised carries some issues of racism. why would they be surprised? they dont have 5 heads, or popped out of a cake--surprised is just a momentary thing, intolerance is a belief and act

 

Yeah I suppose you are right. Surprise is in a moment, if it continues then racism is a part.
