djfromtheday suggested the representation by population size approach above.

Just hope they aren't going to be choosing lesser candidates in qualification for the simple sake of making up numbers.

I know if I'm on a plane I want to be darn sure the pilot is the best they had available and is up to par.

Maybe if they want to instill some quota, the pilots would have to be in tip top shape, regardless of who they are.

Here's my issue because of the socially unjust shit of the past its almost impossible for the black people in that country to catch up. I actually like DJ's idea on it. Just train them adequately. What one man can do another can do, so if there's a bunch of white pilots doing it then there's no reason you can't find black ones in a majority black country.

No doubt South Africa has deep scars from its history.

I would just hope the expectations and bar isn't lowered to hastily get as many black or non-whites as possible while training standards are lessened.

Unlike standardized tests and so forth, you cannot lower the standard in such an area as piloting.

That is why I stated the non-whites had better be just as good and go through the same testing as white pilots who have been refused.

It clearly seems like a discriminatory policy to tell a white South African that they cannot apply to that job sector because of their race being overrepresented, no two ways about it.

I remember I wanted to be a pilot growing up, but hated math. :D

My bad GQ i thought you made that suggestion. Anyway i dont think choosing black people over white people to be trained as pilots automatically means standards will be lowered just because they are black unless we are suggesting that the blacks in South Africa are not capable of being trained to become top pilots. If they stick to the same standards they had before this policy, then they will produce quality black pilots.

If you hate white people so much why would you be on a board about bm dating ww??? Every post you make is about hating white people. You could never possibly be with a white woman. You have ulterior motives for being here. You must. Your words say so.

I actually know somebody that's white and perfectly compatible with Rasta. Why? They both hate white people.

    LOL, JC.

Maybe Kid Rasta is one of those conscious pro black panther militant brothas that hate the white man, but sure love sexing white women. :D

b.t.w. Kid Rasta there were black police gunning down those protesting mine workers as well.

I have paid some attention to that case and it is not as clear cut, there are rival mine unions fighting for influence over one another, those individuals were armed with machetes in some cases.

I know its hard to believe but Africans do kill each other as well without the behest of the white man. Only a day ago

Little in Africa is ever black and white only.

Kid Rasta absolutely hates wm (as do some other folks on here)

Problem I have with bm hating wm is that my dad is white, my brothers are white and my son is white. Why would I ever want to be with someone who would absolutely hate people I absolutely love?

Common sense would dictate these things, but there are individuals who have a warped mindset and cognitive dissonance (hating white men/liking white women)

Some folks got the game all fucked up and any white women in her right mind would do well to steer clear of someone like that. :smt102

Pasta probably realizes his hope with a white woman is virtually nill, so his hatred is carried over to the white male. Nobody can be that deranged, sick minded and moronic to function normally in society to attract ANYBODY of the opposite sex. So he jacks off to every picture, story or rumor of a white woman and black man.

    True story.

A quota system might work. It's great to encourage the previously disadvantaged blacks but a quota system could help. High standards should not be compromised.

In my opinion, the officials might have to tone down their language so that the whole system is not viewed as racist again.

We should remember there were also whites who fought against apartheid. I still want a united rainbow nation.

I see some of us are falling for the okee doke. I may be mistaken, I say I may be mistaken, but no where in my reading of the article did they report anything about lowering the standards for hiring pilots.

Thats how they manipulate your ways of thinking. They write about something only giving you tidbits of the truth, then leave you to fill in the blanks with your own preconceived notions which are more than likely rooted in other forms of incomplete reporting.

How many pilot slots are open?
How long would this program last?
How many white pilots are in the pipeline now?
Will the black candidates be held to the same standards and have the same training as their white counter parts?

All those questions and more would be addressed in a good, solid, well researched news piece. Those are important bits of information that are never addressed.

In this country, the airlines are screaming for pilots. However, most pilots, after getting their licenses and certifications, often end up flying for small regional airlines where the hours are very long and the pay is not very good. The major airlines want military pilots(the military is the cheapest way to earn your wings). Being a professional pilot is fraught with multi-tasking(communications, knowing the difference between IFR(Instrument Flying Rating or Reference), VFR(Visual Flying Rating or Reference), weather and other factors. And most important, being professionally proficient during the flight. It doesn't matter if a pilot is flight passengers or freight. If you can afford to go to flight school, they won't turn you away. I am very sure that pilot Barrington Irving(the youngest and the first black pilot to fly around the world) is flying for a major airline, or he is designing aircraft. Either way, he is writing his own ticket. I say the training for pilots in South Africa should be neutral. Everyone who wants to fly for the airline should be allowed to train, earn their wings, put in the required hours and join the airline.
