well the overwhelming majority seems to be in favor...snowflake sounds kind of corny to me...that is more elementary/junior high school....now snowbunny, that is some grown folk and sexy...you say snowbunny and somebody is going to turn around and look

Maybe "shame" wasn't the right word. I just think some people go out of their way to not mention anything that might include their lover's race, and I think it's too extreme. JMO. I wasn't really referring to you so much, except with the "Surly" thing. Then just went on to talk about how I feel about others.

I didn't mean "hide" going out with a black man like that. I meant, to rather ignore his race, than admitting it's there, when it is, and embracing it, because it's a part of him, just like anything else. Just like his surly face. ;)

I think some people like to make terms of endearment off of what makes their partner unique to them, as well as to others, and shouldn't be looked down upon for it. Like, my man also calls me "Pebbles" because the way I talk sometimes reminds him of "Pebbles" off of the Flintstones, because my voice can be really soft and sweet and a little mumbly :) Or like if my partner decided to call me "Blue eyes" because my eyes are blue. Or if he decided to call me "Shorty" because I'm short. Should other short people take offense to that? Should people who are tall think that's "inappropriate" and get all defensive or condemn him for it?

And I'm sure your man is defined by more than his surly face, but you still call him that, don't you? What's the difference, really?

    :smt023

Nope, you're not the only one, it made me cringe as well. But I look at it differently when it's between me and someone I love and have a close relationship with. And if he's cool with it, and I'm cool with it. That's us and I don't think we should be titled as "inappropriate" or like we're so obsessed with each other's race. We're neither obsessed, nor the opposite. I'm not a fan of either of the extremes. And that was my point.

I think you are completely wrong with this one...and I think you are wrong for accusing me for starting an argument, especially since I posted this under the stereotypes/myth section as a question...and in actuality out of all the women that responded you are just about the only one that opposed...hell you cant please everyone, someone will always object to anything you proposed....you have people that want to be called afro-american and get pissed when you call them black...then u have ones that like to be called black and dislike afro-american...you have people that want to be called africans....you have some that just want to be called american...so personally if someone called me chocolate , caramel, pecan tan so what...and honestly that is quite silly to say I researched the topic to pose it...trust me if I really wanted to start an argument I can....

    snökanin! (in swedish)
I never heard the term, and sounds cute. But can't see the sexyness in using the word bunny.. its small fluffy and cuddly? Also it squeeks if you squeeze it too hard and bites you. Nah..

But I'm with the others on that I wouldn't use a pet name based on skincolor, if it isn't freckles possibly.

I'd probably go around in happy ignorance not knowing a derogatory term if it jumped up and bit me if I lived in the states... o___0

The only people I've ever heard use "snowbunny/snowflake" were black guys and the ones I heard use it most likely wouldn't give a fuck who it offended...black, white,male,female,etc.....cause"....I wazit talkin' to you so you best stay outta my shit."

    Minority privilege has its benfits.

One more thing, being too PC or overtly sensitve is a problem. As I said , you trying decide for someone else how they should feel or react to something and that's not right because inthe end you're taking away that person's right to think for themselves.
