Should the subject of race be avoided among generations after generations?

It's not normal for someone to come home everyday and hear his mother constantly talk about "The white man" this or "black men" that. It gets pretty old after a while.

I might not like children very much, but if people do have kids then they should avoid racial speech because it could affect/confuse their minds and think negative regarding race.

I agree. Young children look up to their parents and take everything they say at face value.

I say no. Negative thoughts will always occur about people of other races. People, no matter what we do will always be ignorant. If I am lucky enough to have a child one day I would not shield my child from racial epithets altogether. I would do my best to show my baby that racism is wrong. It is not okay to judge somebody by skin color alone. As much as I want it, racism will never be abolished. I want to be regarded as a black man. Because that is who I am, a Black man.

I would tell my child that people are people and that there are good and bad in every group

No, I don't avoid talking about race with my children. They are part of this world and they hear things on tv from people they know, strangers, relatives etc. I try to confront steriotypes about people and different people groups in conversations with my children. If they say something that sounds rasist/ingnorat to me I ask them questions: Where did you hear that? Do you believe it? Well so and so is your friend and he's ------ how does what you just said relate to him? That way in our family we are always thinking about what comes out of our mouths and about what we are hearing. Then we can evaluate if our way of thinking as well as different ideas coming into our family.
