SMH. Like I said, you're on that Mikey Shit. Going off on tangents to try to prove you are the smartest dude in the room & that your opinion is the correct one.
You're right. I can't read or don't know shit. You got me. But the one thing I do know that you don't : How to act like a grown ass 40 something year old man.
I like how ice-t handled a question about "jazzy jeff and the fresh prince" The question was from arsenio. It was a bait question and it basically asked about their style. Ice t didnt throw shade. He stated something like "theyre rated pg and hes rated r. He went on to say something they are just 2 different styles If i had to put one song that would or could have inspired rap......muddy waters boom boom
You could include Koko Taylor's Wang Dang Doodle and Les McCann's Compared To What that may have inspired rap. Or the songs of Ray Charles. I discovered DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince by accident( I was originally searching for the Madhouse 16 album(a group that was under Prince's Paisley Park record label). Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff were pg-rated rappers. But they were not the only ones. There were The Fat Boys, Heavy D & The Boys, Bobby Jimmy & The Critters, The Lordz Of Brooklyn and others. LL Cool J switched between pg and hard rap.
Bobby j and the critters were like the weird al of rap. They killed me with roaches. Rap was so diverse. There was something for everyone. The only thing ra was rite about was corporations...cause they wanted one sound gangster. Listen to young mc ' s interview on why he didnt maje another album. Hip hop is a big ass tree....im glad we have b.o.b and travid mccoy...maclemore , iggy and so forth....you can be other than gangster to sell. It was like that from the 70-95 2000 or so. Arrested development , public enemy etc...
Bummer in the Summer by Love might count as a Hip-Hop precusor Really, R&B DJs made a thing of this long before:
Been out of the loop, but going back the "about that life" shit. If anything, being "about that life" in hip-hop's purest form would be from the Kool Herc/Flash/Bambaataa era. Gangsta rap didn't come about until Schooly D, Just Ice and Ice-T in 85-86, so gangsta life shouldn't even be discussed in in here. Hip-hop was about the love, unity and the competition. It was a was to take competitive negative energy of gangs and inner city violence and turn it into positive competitive energy. Bambaataa stopped gangbanging when he was laying the blueprint for hip-hop. You wanna be about that hip-hop life? You wanna be authentic? You should know what the 4 elements of hip-hop are and have a base knowledge of of how they tie into each other if y'all are trying to break the shit down. Of course money is always gonna be a factor. Even KRS-1 wants to get paid for a show, but it's not the main motivating factor for him to be in hip-hop and like many other MCs who are considered "real hip-hop", they put a level of quality into their music that isn't put out by most in the mainstream. And if these rappers on the radio are putting out their best, then many of them just don't have the capability. Iggy and whoever else are free to do what they do, and shouldn't let others stop them from their paper chase. At the same time, if people see wackness, don't expect them to hold their opinion back. Hip-hop is the last style of music where someone is gonna be nice about their opinion on a rapper, unless they are yes-men in their circle. There's a market for everything, but the record companies and media outlets don't want to expand that market. There is no balance. Everything is some kind of club banger or some duet. And Ra is right. A lot of people remain underground/indie by choice. These MCs have more control over their music and don't risk getting fucked over by major record labels, or having some record executive who doesn't understand the culture come in the studio and telling you you're making YOUR music wrong. Also, selling 100,000 albums at 10 dollars on an indie label will be more profitable than a mainstream release going platinum where the rapper gets scraps. There are still people out there willing to sell their music, but not sell themselves. The ones who sell themselves, or never had a great understanding of the culture are the ones you usually see on tv. Sad thing is, I'm pretty sure there a ton of rappers in the mainstream who want to make music that the record labels won't see as "hot", but they can't say shit because they don't want their album shelved.
The thread isnt about if corporation destroyed hip hop....the questions was id she hip hop? Digga said shes not because of the accent and about that life and she should rap about aussie stuff. My response has been who gives a fuck about her accent. Also, about that life? What? So we agree on all that. Now if the convo who ruinef hip hop then yeah corporation did. But is at fault for that? Yeah...if i remember the four...dj, mcees, grafetti and break dancing. True to the true rap battles, and positivity. As far as im concern digga broke that code. Its not cool to call someone nonhip hop unless they are committing a fraud. The vanilla ice rule. Technically alot of rappers today is not hip hop due to the reasons you say...positive and unity. Gsngsta rap...i dont know about that. To me it died with AD and PE.
When you are true to yourself its not gonna work. Look at hammer. People were dogging him cause he was main stream....popish. So when he went hard....it flopped. It wasnt him and it didnt work. People saw thru it. He didnt like it. He was listening to cube and thr like (assuming) and look where it got him as far as sales. Now the people bashed him for main streaming are main stream now. So thats bs. Stick to your style and who you are and u will be alright. No need to diss. Not a good look.
So by what standards are you trying to dictate what should be "Hip Hop"? This whole thread conversation been basically dictated by what you & you alone as the OP thinks is Hip Hop.
The standards been set long time ago. Why do you think i asked what is hip hop. you just getting upset. I didnt disagree with you in corporation is killing hip hop. But thats not the point i was making to you. My pt is digga (i believe) incorrectly said shes not hip hop. Digga never said anything about corporation issue. She understand the business. The question issue is did iggy violated the rules? I say no...shes (as far as i know) didnt violate. Digga violated old school rules in dissing personal for no cause. You had battles on wax...it wad just about who was the better rapper. ....ie kool moe dee vs. Ll cool j. It was never personal...just fun from what i remember.
I kept trying to tell you im not concerned about corporation destroying hip hop because we all know that.
Lol. You need some exlax....chicken little. When u get ebola...let me know. I will send you my wishes
